Formerly “A” division, prior to establishment of a tournament in 1957. Typically, but not always, the Southern League champ played a challenge round with a central or northern champ. In years were there no such interleague playoffs, the provincial champ was declared by the Alberta Amateur Basketball Association. The championship trophy is named after Raymond teacher Lyman Jacobs, a charter member of the Alberta School Athletic Association and president of the ASAA from 1962-64.
