Rouge et Or coach Guillaume Giroux said “we managed to score 68 points, it’s not a disappointment, but we did not make as many shots as usual. I’m happy because the girls showed a lot of character. … We were expecting a tough game, it’s a playoff game. It always is. If we hit the same percentages of success as in the season, it ends in 20, but that’s not how it works. … We had the goal to take more than 75 shots in the game, and we took 79, 14 more than them, so that’s very positive. It must fall a little more.” Khaleann Caron-Goudreau said “it was difficult, but we are happy to have won. We were expecting a big challenge, we were a little nervous before the game. If our throws came in, it would not have been the same match. It happens, you have to be prepared for that.” The Citadins took the lead with five minutes to play but Claudia Emond and Sarah-Jane Marois notched critical buckets as the Rouge et Or regained command.         In the final, the top-seeded Laval Rouge et Or dusted the 2nd-seeded Concordia Stingers 75-55 after leading 19-13, 37-31 and 55-38 at the quarters. Rouge et Or coach Guillaume Giroux said his troops played the match of their “career, at the right time. We had worked on video and training on Thursday, and it was done to perfection. Naomi (Lavallée) managed the shots we had targeted. I’m really happy with the way we went out. … We arrive healthy there (at nationals). We will be ranked number one or number two. This is clearly one of the best formations I have run. We have veterans, we have greatness and we are threatening everywhere. This group is able to win a national championship.” Lavallée said “I got really well today. We were ready to go to war, and it appeared on the ground. We still have one step to go. We are still goal-oriented, and we come here with great confidence and a team ready to give everything. … I dreamed a long time to win a provincial championship for Laval University. I grew up watching them play at the time they won championships. To be able to do it, eight years later, it feels good. We knew that if we played as we were able to do, we would win. We were really well prepared all week.” Sarah-Jane Marois said “honestly, I knew we had the team to do it. I have already said, I am surrounded by champions. We just had to bring the work and we did it. Everyone deserves it fully and I’m really happy for those that it’s been a long time since they try to have it and that finally, they have it!” Sarah-Jane Marois paced Laval with 18 on 8-14 from the floor, 2-5 from the arc, 5 boards and 8 assists.
