In the sudden-death semi-final, Bishop’s defeats Concordia 66-59 as Amelie Rousseau and France Lanoie drained treys to ignite a 10-0 run with eight minutes to play. Sarah Limpert, who replaced Gaiters captain Catherine Charbonneau after she suffered an ankle injury, scored a career-high 17.
In the final, Laval defeated Bishop’s 62-51 as Isabelle Grenier scored 8, grabbed 5 boards, dished 3 assists and pilfered 7 balls. Laval led 35-28 at the half and exploded to a 44-30 lead in the second half to take command. Catherine Charbonneau and Jessica Koury each scored 14 to pace Bishop’s.
After the season, Lisen Moore steps down as coach of the Martlets to become intercollegiate manager of McGill’s 46 varsity teams. She is replaced by 31-year-old Ryan Thorne, an assistant with McGill over the previous two seasons. “I am pleased that Ryan is staying on with the team,” said athletic director Bob Dubeau. “He is a dynamic individual with great inter-personal skills and his familiarity with the current team and the Quebec university basketball scene will clearly be beneficial to the Martlets.” The Chateauguay native was also a founding executive of Big Game Sports & Entertainment, Inc., he coordinates and implements youth and elite level sports programs, which are designed to increase visibility for aspiring athletes. “I would like to thank Bob Dubeau and Lisen Moore for believing in my ability to work hard with our student-athletes,” says Thorne. “I am honoured to have this opportunity and plan to move this team in a positive direction. My goal is to build a solid foundation for the future of the program, with the ultimate goal of being a contender for a national championship.” A former captain and most valuable player at John Abbott College, Thorne toiled at Bishop’s, where he was a three-time conference all-star.
