In the regular season, Concordia and McGill finished atop the standings with (16-4) records.

Playoff non-qualifier Bishop’s Gaiters: Cynthia Hitchcock, Kim Van Vliet, Leanne Clark, Michelle Huneault, Sharolyn Higgs, Courtney Romkey, Joanne Delong, Valerie Falls, Chaynna Hay, Grainne Masterson, Adriana Murphy, coach Rod Gilpin

In the sudden death semi, McGill defeated Laval 76-59. “We did some of the things we really wanted to do, like run the ball and play defence better than we have in a while. I thought we did both pretty well in the second half,” senior forward Anne Gildenhuys, whose 21 points helped transform the semi-final into a no-contest affair, told the Montreal Gazette. “But we’ve still got work to do. I felt we still made too many turnovers tonight and that’s what killed us against Concordia the last time we played them,” the 5-10 engineering student added. Gildenhuys also grabbed three rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. All-Canadian forward Vicky Tessier scored 20. The Martlets started the season 23-0 but lost four league games in February. Laval out-rebounded McGill 37-30 and the Martlets seemed to struggle with their normally impeccable transition game. But “I thought this was our best game in a while,” said Tessier, who scored 13 in the first half to lead the Martlets to a 43-37 lead at the break. “Tonight was a good comeback and a good preparation for us. The important thing for us was that even when the score was close in the first half, nobody lost faith. We just continued to execute. That was good for us, because there have been times when we would be disorganized for long periods of time, but that didn’t happen tonight. We still have to improve. We want to exploit our running game because I know we can run against Concordia and defensively, we expect to do a better job on Saturday.” McGill point guard Jennifer Stacy scored 15. Laval got 12 from Julie Cantin.

In the final, Concordia defeated McGill 59-57. The Stingers rallied from an 11-point half-time deficit to stun the fourth ranked Martlets. Concordia opened the second half with a 23-5 run and contained Quebec MVP Vicky Tessier to 10 points in the second half after she’d torched the Stingers for 19 in the first half. Guylaine Blanchette led Concordia with 15 points. “This feels great. This is almost like a movie,” Concordia forward Patricia Demers, who scored on a backdoor layup with a minute left to give the Stingers and 58-55 lead, told the Montreal Gazette. “Even the first half, when things weren’t going out way, we knew that as long as we kept making them run, making them suffer, then it was only going to be a matter of time before our machine kicked in. And I could McGill knew it was going to happen. I could see it in their eyes.” Demers finished with 6 points. League MVP Vicky Tessier scored 29, including 11-12 from the line in the first half to lead McGill to a 36-25 lead at the break. But the Stingers roared back with the 23-5 run as Blanchette got hot and Carol-Anne Tull kept draining free throws. McGill fought back to within one but Concordia snuffed out the rally with four seconds left when Jennifer Smith picked off an inbounds pass to Tessier in the paint. “The biggest adjustment we made at the half was that I told them to settle down,” said Concordia coach Keith Pruden. “I mean we were tight in the first half. Our offence was there but we were making too many turnovers. What really got us going in the second half, though, was the intensity of our defence.”
