In the semis, Bishop’s defeated Laval 53-45.
In the final, McGill defeated Bishop’s 76-51 as Annette Kiss scored 10 and nabbed 10 boards. The Martlets led 35-30 at the half and pulled away with a 14-5 run early in the second half to win the school’s first title in 12 years. “It is a great feeling,” coach Hubert Lacroix told the Montreal Gazette. “We’ve been waiting for this for eight years, since I started here. We played the same game we’ve been playing all year and we knew that if five of our girls would score well, no one would touch us.” Bonnie McNaughton scored 12, Leah Hayman 22, Paula Goffild 10, Mireille Beland 10, Annette Kiss 10 and Janet Swords added 9. Carole Miller led Bishop’s with 16. Judy Lang added 12. “It was a lack of experience,” said Bishop’s coach Andrea Blackwell. “The girls gave up and I couldn’t get them going again. Our plan was to force them into an outside shooting game, which we did, but you have to credit them. They shot well.”
