In the regular season, McGill finished atop the standings with an (8-4) record.
In the semis, the Concordia Stingers defeated the Universite du Quebec @ Trois-Rivieres Patriotes 72-68.
In the final, Concordia upset regular season champ McGill 86-73 as Craig Norman scored 28, Rob Latter 18 and Marlon Paul 17. McGill coach Ken Schildroth told the Montreal Gazette that “we gave Rob Latter too many easy baskets early in the game and, when we shut him down, Norman started to score well. Then there was Marlon Paul. He had a great game too. We had difficult matchups. The momentum that the Stingers had early in the second half made us panic. It made our inexperience show.” Concordia shot .660 from the floor, while McGill was .390. Willie Hinz paced the Redmen with 26. Clint Hamilton added 23. Concordia led 38-34 at the half. McGill quickly tied it at 38 but never led. The Stingers opened a 56-42 lead midway through the half and were never threatened. “We’ve come together at the right time of the year,” said Concordia coach Doug Daigneault. “And physically we’re in good shape going into the nationals. … Latter is the guts of our inside game.”
