In the quarterfinals, the top-seeded Carleton Ravens blasted the 8th-seeded McMaster Marauders 94-77 as Kali Pocrnic blistered the nets for 40. It was what you hope you get from your leaders this time of year, that they understand their teammates and the team dynamic. And, they were able to fix that. … I thought it was an example of doing what the team needed in that moment. She [Pocrnic] in no way is hunting stats or even trying to break records or anything like that, […] she’s just been around long enough to know that in that moment it’s what we needed.” Pocrnic said, in regard to her program 40 playoff points, “honestly, I didn’t know the program history, the top score before, so that was pretty cool to reach, but it was all because of my team. … The way Mac played us in our first game, they were really gapping off of me, so miss or make, I’m either going to make the three or my teammates are going to get a rebound and they’re going to put it up. … In the first half, we weren’t really playing together as a team, like we normally are, and that just came together defensively. Once we turned that on in the third and fourth quarter, played for each other and committed to each other, that’s when good things happened.” Kali Pocrnic paced the Ravens with 40 on 17-33 from the floor, 6-9 from the arc, 4 boards and 4 assists. Gaels post Julia Chadwick, who notched a double-double, said “it was a high stakes game, I think that fueled me and it fueled the team. We played really well together and off of each other and I think that’s how we ended up on top. … One big factor is at the beginning of the season we set making nationals and going to the OUA Championship as a team goal and that was really the fuel that led us. All of our work throughout the season led to this moment and it was performing in the moment.” Laura Donovan added that “it was a tough game. TMU have played in big games like that before and they came out tough and played us physical. We matched that physicality and we really wanted this for our team. I feel like we played a great team game, it really started from our defence.” Gaels coach Claire Meadows said “we talked a lot about our defence and how locked in our defence needed to be, how much we needed to defend the three-point line, and I thought we did a great job of that. When you hold a team to 49 points, you’re putting yourself in a good position to win a basketball game. … It takes 12 players to win at this point in the season, and obviously we’re playing more players than others, but everyone on our team has bought in to what we’re doing and they show up everyday, one through 12, and everyone shows up with a great attitude and puts in the work. And that has allowed us to get to this point, and that has allowed us to be successful to this point.” Julia Chadwick paced the Gaels with 25 on 11-26 from the floor, 1-3 from the arc, 2-5 from the line, 17 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals.
