In the quarterfinals, top-ranked Western defeated Queen’s 71-64. Cara Waterfall led the Gaels with 9.         McMaster dumped Laurentian 70-57. The Voyageurs (coached by Peter Ennis) included Tanya Tatti, Sarah Kieffer, Melanie Rathbone, Katie Malone, Stephanie DeSutter, Linda Carriere, Karen Vos, Joy McNichol, Jennifer Chorney, Shelley Al Dewar, Stephanie Harrison and Kristina MacDonald.

        Toronto clubbed Wilfrid Laurier 83-64.         In the last quarterfinal, York defeated Lakehead 72-62 in overtime. The Norwesters (coached by Stu Julius) included Kerri-Jo Timmermans, Robin Lawrence, Karen Barry, Becky Morrison, Donna Foreman, Katya Masun, Alicia Gunn, Erin Manahan, Jackie Shaw, Carolyn Bazaluk, Allison Smith, Angela Hrkac, Carolyn Bazaluk and Amy Pinnegar.

In the semis, Western defeated McMaster 80-70.

In the other semi, Toronto dumped York 84-68.

        In the bronze medal match, McMaster defeated York 77-70. York took the early lead but McMaster rallied to a 35-27 lead at the half. Mac picked up their game in the second half and led 46-37 after 2.5 minutes. York managed to get within three twice during the half only to see Mac draw away again. Tara Emerick was chosen player of the game for the Marauders, while Maya Habash earned the laurels for the Lions. Shelley Vanderbeld paced McMaster with 12 on 5-9 from the floor, 2-6 from the line, 5 boards and 4 steals. Wendy Merritt added 11 on 4-7 from the floor, 1-1 from the arc, 2-2 from the line, 8 boards and 2 assists. Dani Chabot notched 11 on 4-10 from the floor, 0-3 from the arc, 3-5 from the line, 5 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals. Jackie White scored 10 on 3-6 from the floor, 4-5 from the line, 2 boards and 2 steals. Tara Emerick added 9, along with 5 boards and 2 steals, Jen Sutherland 8, along with 2 steals, Nicki Brunhuber 8, along with 6 boards and 2 assists, Kerri Hill 4, along with 3 boards and Sarah Lupton 4, while Michelle Mittl and Cindy Merritt, Carla Vesprini, Ali Seow, Margaret Martin and Megan Hendry were scoreless. Karen Jackson paced York with 31 on 12-19 from the floor, 7-8 from the line, 8 boards and 4 assists. Maya Habash added 17 on 7-22 from the floor, 1-8 from the arc, 2-3 from the line, 8 boards, 3 assists, 4 blocks and 3 steals. Susy Pacheco added 6, along with 2 boards, Adina Franceschino 4, along with 2 boards, Leslie Richards 4, along with 2 boards, 3 assists and 5 steals, Shannon Carey 4, along with 9 boards, April Taylor 2 and Kristen Rainville 2, while Rachel Manley-Casimir, Shelley Lang, Dena Weinroth and Elizabeth Naumovski were scoreless. The Lions hit 29-71 from the floor, 1-8 from the arc and 11-13 from the line, while garnering 38 boards, 19 fouls, 16 assists, 25 turnovers, 6 blocks and 13 steals. The Lions (coached by Bill Pangos) also included Maria Roser and Christina Dickson.

        In the final, Toronto thrashed Western 92-70 in a battle between the two top-ranked teams in the country. Tournament MVP Justine Ellison paced second-ranked Toronto with 30, along with 11 boards. Michele Vesprini led top-ranked Western with 37. The Blues led 43-27 at the half despite struggling to contain the aggressive drives of Vesprini. The Mustangs drew no closer than 13 before the Blues put the outcome out of their reach by repeatedly draining their free throws. “We’re number one in the country and no one is going to bump us down,” Rachel Dei-Amoah told the Varsity. Blues rookie Stephanie Splitter was named game MVP. “What this does is ratifies what we’ve been talking about and really capitalizing on what we can accomplish [playing a good solid game],” said coach Michele Belanger. “We’ve been shooting in the high 40 per cent. Teams have been taking us for granted.”

        After the season, Joanne MacLean stems down after 11 years at the helm of Windsor to become athletic director. She’s replaced by Shawn O’Rourke, an assistant with the men’s team, on an interim basis. Played at Laurier and worked with OBA junior development teams.
