In the semis, held in London, defending champ Toronto defeated Western 34-27. The score was knotted at 17 at the half but Louise Crouch took command in the second half. Crouch paced Toronto with 18. Eleanor Sedgewick added 14 and Wilma Hazlitt 3. Margaret Turner led Western with 16. Helen McCormack added 7 and Jessie Walker 4.
In the other semi, McGill clipped Queen’s 35-23 (alternately reported as 27-22) as Winnie Chisholm scored 23, Betty Craik 8, Janet Baillie 2 and L. Smart 2. The Martlets led 17-7 at the half. Ella Sexton led Queen’s with 15. Doreen Kenny added 4 and Jean Dunlop 4.
In the bronze medal match, Western defeated Queen’s 30-20. Marjorie Turner paced Western with 14. Jessie Walker added 11 and Helen McCormick 5. The Mustangs led 17-5 at the half. Doreen Kenny led Queen’s with 11. Ella Sexton added 9. The Gaels (coached by E Murphy) also included Fay Kimmins, Ilse Schroeder, Jean Dunlop, Margaret Brown, Peggy MacIntosh, Gladys Munnings, playing manager Viola Culp, Jean Taylor, Pat Jarrell and Marion Lick.
In the final, Toronto defended its crown by whipping McGill 53-41 (also reported as 58-34). Toronto led 34-18 at the half. Louise Crouch paced Toronto 24. Eleanor Sedgewick added 23 and Wilma Hazlett 8. The Varsity Blues led 34-18 at the half. Janet Baillie led McGill with 18. Winnie Chisholm added 17 and Betty Craik 6. The teams played six-man basketball. Toronto’s front line featured Wilma Hazlitt, Eleanor Sedgewick and Louise Crouch. The defence featured Frances Dale, Honor Tett and Norma Bateman.
