On March 27/59, OQAA announced that it would split the league into two divisions, east and west because McGill was complaining about travel costs. The East division would include McGill which would play a six-game schedule. The West would include Windsor and Western and would play an 8-game schedule. Queen’s, McMaster and Toronto would play a 10-game schedule in both divisions, with games against the other division not counting in the divisional standings. In the event that McGill won the eastern division, it would the right to challenge the Western division titlist for the OQAA crown.

On March 28, 1959, OQAA officials announced that they are admitting Waterloo into the senior loop. Waterloo athletic director Carl Totzke says the move heralds a new trend in intercollegiate sports. “This should be a tremendous boost to our athletic program and the university as a whole. I didn’t know how our bid might be received but everything as worked out in excess of our expectations. It’s been very difficult for smaller schools to break into the intercollegiate senior schedules. But the inclusion of Waterloo with little opposition indicates a new approach to the whole intercollegiate athletic set-up.” The Warriors were given permission to enter the loop commencing in the 1962 campaign.
