       Western breezed to another undefeated (6-0) season. The Mustangs found themselves in controversy early in the season when they opened the campaign by dumping Toronto and then had the Varsity Blues protest that star Bob Phibbs should be ruled ineligible by the Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union because he was employed by the university. But CIAU president Nelson Hart ruled that Phibbs was eligible because he was registered for a complete course of master of Business Administration.

McMaster was admitted to the Senior Intercollegiate Basketball League on April 1, 1951 to commence play the following season. The football team, however, was denied entry into the league. CIAU president Nelson Hart said the four member institutions did not want to lengthen their schedule.

In June, 1951, Moe Abramowitz announces his resignation as McGill’s coach after two seasons at the helm. He is replaced by Joe Anderson from Tulane University.
