In the semis, Manitoba defeated Winnipeg 66-53; 78-62. The Wesmenettes (coached by Tanya McKay) included Heidi Schwartz, Brooke Bender, Cara Braun, Jessica Cottingham, Karen Dyck, Stephanie Dyck, Dana Harvey, Teresa Hildebrand, Tanissa Martindale, Jackie Presley, Erin Soroko, Heather Wedlake and Angela Willerton.
In the finals, Regina defeated Manitoba 87-85; 71-60 (2g-0).
In game one, Regina prevailed 66-53. The Cougars fell behind 24-10 after two week layoff. Anne Smith was on fire for Manitoba, finishing with 32 points. Regina, playing without Corrin Wersta, slowly cut into the lead. Manitoba was ahead 48-42 at the break but Regina’s depth took over. Amy Mickleborough scored 18, Bree Burgess 17 and Andrea Gottselig 15, Heather Dedman 14 and Medorann Harris 13.
In game two, Regina sprinted to a 9-0 lead. With Bree Burgess hitting from the perimeter and setting up the transition offence, Regina took control. In the second half, Amy Mickleborough and Medorann Harris took over in the low post and Regina coasted. Burgess scored 19 while Corrin Wersta pitched in 16. Anne Smith led Manitoba with 23. It was Regina’s first title since 1991.
