In the deciding contest, Winnipeg defeated Manitoba 63-59 despite trailing 34-29 at the half. Chris Critelli and Darlene Bonney each scored 20. Beth Johnston led Manitoba with 16. Shirley Hurst added 15. Winnipeg coach Vic Pruden noted that “our defence was shaky in the first half. However, we were able to keep within distance of them and I was confident that we would come back. In the first half, we were not putting any pressure on their shooters and they were picking us apart. But as the game went along, we kept improving and even though the score was close, we were in control at the end. I think the difference was that we were tougher mentally. Early in the year, we can up short when the going got tough but today we didn’t give up. The further they got ahead of us, the harder we tried.”
