The Bobcats took control in the second half. Louisville, Kentucky-product Earnest Bell scored 23, grabbed 9 boards and hit 10-14 from the floor and 3-3 from the line while stealing the ball twice. Tyler Wright scored 14, grabbed 9 boards and hit 4-6 from the floor. The Cougars lost guard Ashley Yeaman to ankle injury at the 10-minute mark. “The snake-bit season continues,” lamented head coach James Hillis. “We can’t seem to keep our whole team on the floor this season. We were down 71-68 with six minutes left and then we had a tough time scoring. But the back-breaker for us was when we were down by five points with three minutes left and (Brandon) had it for 1:30. They hit a three-pointer to end it and we were down eight.” The Cougars shot 58 per cent from the floor, but just 21 per cent from three-point land. “That’s not going to cut it,” Hillis said. “We’re a small team and we need to hit those shots.” …………………………………………………… In game two, Regina defeated Brandon 86-75. The Bobcats sprinted to an eight-point lead at the half but had difficulties from the line in the second half as Regina rallied to take the lead with five minutes to play and ran away from the victory. We did a lot better today in the three free throw department and was certainly a factor in our win,” coach Jerry Hemmings wrote on the CIAU discussion list. “The main contributing factor this afternoon was our defence, which forced the men in green to resort to a lot of three-point attempts but they made only 9-33.” Earnest Bell led Brandon with 21 points, 12 boards, 5-6 from the line and 8-10 from the floor. Walker also scored 21, nabbed 7 boards, 9-12 from the line and 6-10 from the floor. Josh Masters added 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4-4 from the line.
