In the semis, Manitoba upset Regina 75-73; 80-86; 97-90 (2g-1). …………………………………………………… In game one, the Bisons defeated host Regina 75-73. The Cougars built a 10-point lead as guard Steve Podwin hit 5-5 from beyond the arc in the first six minutes. Manitoba aggressively hit the offensive glass, particularly 6-5 Ogo Okwumabua and Paul Fust. Regina led 37-36 at the break. It was a see-saw second half. With seconds to play, Fust hit a 14-foot jumper to give the Herd a two-point lead. Regina failed to get off a shot in the confusion of last fourteen seconds. It was the first Manitoba win at Regina in four years. …………………………………………………… In game two, Regina defeated Manitoba 86-80 as Dale Holmes dominated, scoring 33 on 15-18 from the floor and 3 blocks. Tyler Wright added 16 for Cougars while Ashley Yeaman scored 13. …………………………………………………… In game three, Manitoba opened on fire from the perimeter as Brad Unger hit three from beyond the arc and Manitoba took an early lead. But Dale Holmes kept Cougars in the game. Manitoba missed five straight free throws just before the half but retained a 42-37 lead at the break. The Herd continued on fire from the perimeter in the second half as Matt Lechasseur and Paul Fust drained threes. Regina fought back to tie it with five to play but Manitoba pulled ahead. Dale Holmes scored 30 for Regina and Scott Goebel 18. Brad Unger led Manitoba with 19.

In the finals, Brandon defeated Manitoba 73-59; 81-71 (2g-0).

In game one, Brandon prevailed 73-59 as Mark Passley scored 16, Richard Lovelace 16 and Trevor John 13, along with 6 boards. Bobcats assistant coach Greg Lockridge said “it wasn’t a game that either team showed a lot of poise at times. Both teams seemed to be out of sync.” Brandon never trailed despite being outrebounded 36-30 and hitting just 3-15 from the arc. “We’ve gotta hit some outside shots,” Bisons coach Rick Suffield said. “We didn’t shoot well. I’m anxious to see die stats … well, I don’t think I’m too anxious to see die stats.” The Bisons shot .420 from the floor and 2-15 from the arc. Brad Unger and Paul Fust scored a combined 14 from the perimeter for the Bisons. Ogo Okuwumabua paced the Bisons with 24. “The bottom line is Brandon played tough, aggressive defence,” Suffield said. “They made us turn die ball over and we didn’t respond.” The Bobcats led 36-28 at the half. Trevor John noted that “things just weren’t rolling smooth. We’re just going to have to look over what we did in the game and hopefully find a solution on playing the proper offence we’re capable of playing.” Suffield said Okwumabua “was exceptional tonight. He scored, he rebounded and he came to play with some heart. Some of our other guys gotta take a look in die mirror and step up tomorrow.” Lockridge said the Bisons tried several defenders on Okwumabua. “We tried showing him a few different people. We showed him what Dave’s (Paris) personality was like, and Richard’s (Ashmon) and Mark’s (Passley) and Trevor’s (John)… We’re just going to show him

different personalities and hope that he doesn’t hit die key shots that are going to beat us.” The Bobcats featured Maurice Carter from Illinois, Tex Phillips from Minnesota; and Richard Ashmon from Illinois.

In game two, Brandon completed the sweep with an 81-71 win.
