Brandon coach Jerry Hemmings took a sabbatical to become an assistant coach at Tulane University. His replacement, Dwight Kearns, led the Bobcats to the national tourney title match.

In the sudden death semi, the Winnipeg Wesmen defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 81-68 as Mark Johannson scored 23. Cheddie Warner paced the Thunderwolves with 20.
In the finals, Brandon defeated Winnipeg 93-79; 84-80 (2g-0).
In game one, Brandon defeated Winnipeg 93-79 as John Carson tossed in 20, Charles Douthit 18 and Ken Fields 17. Mark Johannson paced Winnipeg with 19. Blaine Acton added 17 and Art Koop 16. “We slowed them down but they shot 50% and we were 44% and that really hurt us,” said Winnipeg coach Bruce Enns. “Also, for the first time this season we ran into foul trouble. With 10 minutes remaining, we had Perrie Scarlett, Mark Johannson, Art Koop and Willie Parker all with 4 fouls.”
In game two, Brandon defeated Winnipeg 84-80 as Charles Douthit scored 22 and John Carson 18. Mark Johannson led Winnipeg with 20. Art Koop added 16, Perrie Scarlett 14, Willie Parker 12 and Blaine Acton 12. “We were ahead with a minute to go but some strange things started to happen,” said Wesmen coach Bruce Enns.
