In the sudden death semi, Lakehead defeated Winnipeg 72-64, despite trailing 35-32 at the half. Winnipeg had taken a 13-point lead in the first half but the more physical Norwesters wore down the Wesmen. Winnipeg coach Bruce Enns noted that “we played really well, well enough to win anywhere else but at the Lakehead. There is not much I can say. We took good shots but (the officiating) was unbelievable.” David Zanatta paced Lakehead with 28 points. Bob Baergen added 20. Belaineh Deguefe led Winnipeg with 20 points. Gord Tucker added 11.

In the finals, Brandon defeated Lakehead 80-78; 73-71 (2g-0).

In game one, Brandon defeated Lakehead 80-71 as Jude Kelly scored 28 and Will Marshall 16. The Bobcats led 37-32 at the break. David Zanatta led Lakehead with 24 points. Bob Baergen added 16.

In game two, the Bobcats defeated Lakehead 78-73 as rookie Keith Wilder, who’d seen little action in game one, scored 24 points and grabbed 10 boards. Jude Kelly added 16 and Cheddie Warner 12. David Zanatta led Lakehead with 21. Karl Subban added 18. Wilder was chosen player of the game. “He really wasn’t doing anything on Friday night,” Bobcats coach Jerry Hemmings said. “He wasn’t shooting well and he committed a couple of unnecessary turnovers. But, tonight, he made some key steals for us, he got a lot of boards and he was really shooting well. He was a big key to our victory.” Wilder said “I know I didn’t play very well on Friday night. I wasn’t shooting well, so I figured I’d worry more about rebounding and playing good defence and leave the scoring to the other guys. But, when that didn’t work, either, I got frustrated and asked the coach to take me out because I wasn’t helping the team.” Wild hit 11-19 from the floor and 2-3 from the line. Lakehead coach Rick Suffield said “it’s really disappointing to play so well against that team and not have at least one win to show for it. We were really hurt on the boards because (6-foot-5 forward) Ken Ross couldn’t play due to a broken bone in his foot. That’s where the Bobcats killed us. Guys like Wilder and Jude Kelly would get the offensive rebounds and turn them into easy baskets.” The Bobcats outrebounded the Nor’Westers 37-30, including 15-8 on offensive rebounds. “But, I’m proud of the way my guys played,” Suffield added. “I’ve got all the respect in the world for the Bobcats and I think they will represent G-PAG well. I told Jerry that I’d be down there cheering them on, but if we happen to get the wild-card berth, I’ll be cheering for our team a little bit more.”
