The title was captured by the University of Manitoba Bisons with a (15-1) record. The team was entirely comprised of Canadians and lost only four times all season, to a Senior A Winnipeg team, to Minot St (N.D.) and twice to Lakehead. The Bisons added Manitoba high school player of the year Martin Riley to the roster, along with Greg Daniels, and welcomed back Angus Burr from a year off and Darryl Rumsey from injury. The Bisons wrapped up the title with two games remaining on the schedule by pounding the Lakehead Nor’westers 72-60 and 85-81 in a two-game series. Bisons coach Don Hunter said “this whole team has come through when we needed it all year, and I knew with some guts we could win this one. Over 2,000 people saw basketball at its best this weekend.” In game two, Angus Burr paced the Bisons with 22. Darryl Rumsey added 19, Martin Riley 17, Hymie Fox 11 and Doug Freeth 10. James Copeland paced Lakehead with 25 points and 12 boards. Jeff Watson added 21, Evan Simpson 15 and Dan Rajnovich 15. “I’m convinced that Darryl (Rumsey) should be an

all-Canadian centre this year,” said Hunter. “He’s played tremendous ball all year for us. Doug (Freeth) also played tremendous ball. I feel he really hurt them (Lakehead) during the weekend. He didn’t score that much, but his presence was always known out there.”
