In the final, the 6th-seeded Carleton Ravens captured their 18th-title in 23 years by edging the 5th-seeded Bishop’s Gaiters 78-75. The Gaiters led 20-17, 35-34 and 56-54 at the quarters. The game featured 15 ties and 18 lead changes. Ravens player of the game Aubrey Dorey-Havens lit up the Gaiters for 9 treys. “I’m just so happy,” Dorey-Havens told The Charlatan. “So proud of my team. I played well today, but my team played amazing today. I couldn’t do anything without them. I can’t believe it, I’m still processing the emotions.” Cedric Mbiaba added that “no words can describe this feeling, honestly. I can’t lie to you guys, no words. This feeling is surreal. I’ve never imagined myself to be to this point but we got it done. We got it done. We’ve been talking about getting this done the whole year.” The Ravens said they were determined to bring the title home for M.J. Okado, who was injured in the quarterfinals. “Look at this smile on his face. That makes me feel so good. We just had to get it done, just had to get it done for him.” Dorey-Havens said Okado has “been the key to our team all season. So doing it for him, we knew other guys had to step up, and they did.” With the score knotted at 71 with three minutes to play, the Gaiters hit a bucket but Dorey-Havens answered with another trey. Bishop’s again took a one-point lead but Dorey-Havens notched a mid-range jumper and a pair for free throws to ice the win. “Very emotional,” said Ravens coach Taffe Charles. “It was really much harder with the guys missing. But some guys stepped up. That’s what we’ve been doing all year round, we haven’t been one specific guy. We’ve been a group of guys. So can’t be more proud. … Guys in blood, sweat and tears, people are hurt — like really hurt — and they really figured out a way to get this done, which is not an easy feat. The other team is a great team. We played them in October. They beat us by 25 at our place, very, very handily. But I think we grew.” Mbiaba said Dorey-Havens is “amazing. Wow, career high. What a way to seize the moment. Just like, wow, I can’t. Aubrey’s the man.” Dorey-Havens said “they’re a great team. There’s a reason why it’s the national finals, right? They’re an amazing team. We knew we just had to keep making plays. That was it.” Charles said Dorey-Havens “was telling me what play he wanted to run. So that was probably the big thing.
