Tournament MVP Sam Maillet said “it’s pretty amazing. This group has worked so hard all year, and I’m just really proud of them. It’s amazing feeling, it’s pretty surreal. … We just got back to being ourselves. We’ve said all year, we want to have more fun than the other team. We’ve had fun and just played with joy. We played together and played for each other, and there’s so many guys that are strong leaders in our locker room so we could get back to that We had nothing to lose and everything to win, and we played like that. We were hungry, starving for a title, and we got it done.” Vikes coach Murphy Burnatowski said “it’s amazing. It’s something we’ve talked about, and I feel it was a little bit like a fairy tale for us, just in the way we lost in the conference playoffs and the way we stepped up. We were playing a very good basketball team and down three starters, it’s going to be tough. We had to play perfect today. Their defensive pressure on us was really heavy, and getting the ball up the floor was difficult at times. Loosening up the floor for someone like Nate (Petrone) to get free was really hard – but that’s how it is. Our team showed great character over the last four weeks. We came together the way you need to as a team, and unfortunately, we had some rotten luck. But I am super proud of them. They’re great character kids and represented the University of Calgary very well.” Player of the game Renoldo Robinson paced the Vikes with 24 on 10-22 from the floor, 1-4 from the arc, 3-4 from the line, 9 boards and 4 steals.
