The victor is awarded the W.P. McGee Trophy. Reverend William McGee was coach of the Assumption (Windsor) basketball team from 1923-36 known as the Fighting Freshmen. The Roman Catholic priest led his team to two OABA titles, an Eastern Canadian championship and took them to the Canadian finals in 1935. He was also a president of the Canadian Amateur Basketball Association. The trophy was donated by the Windsor Alumni Association in recognition of his contribution to athletics and education.
