In the regular season, Victoria swept to a 20-0 record. In their closing match was against Lethbridge, during which they trailed by 15 but rallied to win 67-63. “Going into playoffs it’s good to be tested like that,” said coach Kathy Shields.

In the semis, Victoria whipped Calgary 84-40 as Jenny Sutton scored 27, Sue Tomio 9, Heather Bohez 8, Tara Gallaway 8, Kirstin (Kristine?) Brown 7, Cherie Birtwhistle 7, Kathy Keats 5, Chris Van Aert 4, Rachel Sexton 3, Kerri-Anne Butterworth 2, Audrey Dennison 2 and Tamara Carruthers 2. Jackie Beisel paced the Dinosaurs with 11. Audra Duregon added 9, Celita Preete 5, Megan Koch 4, Mauren Ozure 4, Melita Bishop 3, Lisa Bacigalupi 3 and Carolyn Becock 1, while Lynette Lepan, Patti Cumming and Georgina Newell were scoreless.

In the other semi, Lethbridge dumped U.B.C. 76-62 as Andrea Hlady scored 17, Shari Jensen 14, Joanne Tegart 12, Vanessa Upton 9, Shantal Reed 9, Shannon Frier 7, Lindy Westrop 6 and Jenni Washburn 2, while Shannon Hecker was scoreless. Lisa Nickle paced U.B.C. with 18. Wendi Palmer added 13, Jenny Mann 10, Tania Gladiuk 7, Claire Polomark 6, Elissa Beckett 3, Tiffany Chester 2, Cheryl Kinton 2 and Carrie Carlsen 1. “We were only up 35-33 at the half, but we played really well in the second half,” said Pronghorn coach Dori Rodzinyak. “We kicked them on the boards. We had 23 offensive and 30 defensive rebounds compared to eight and 18 for UBC.”

In the bronze medal match, U.B.C. defeated Calgary 86-67 as Lisa Nickle scored 19. Patti Cumming led the Dinosaurs with 19. The Dinosaurs (coached by Donna Roman-Rudakas) also included Lisa Bacigalupi, Meagan Koch, Audra Duregon, Melita Bishop, Linda Orr, Celina Preete, Lynette Lepan, Georgina Newell, Jackie Beisel, Maureen Ozar, Carolyn Decock and Jordi Knoll.

In the final, Victoria took a 36-16 lead at the half en route to a 72-32 pasting of Lethbridge. The Vikettes were led by Tara Galloway’s 14 points. Andrea Hlady paced Lethbridge with 12.

After the season, Shawnee Harle, an assistant with the University of Victoria’s women’s basketball team, is tabbed as the head coach of Brandon.
