The Pandas were shorthanded early as Amanda Holloway had yet arrived on a play but she returned late in the first half. The Vikes led 21-17 at the half but Alberta rallied to knot the score at 32. But the Vikes Edna Ritchie took command of the boards when Panda Charlotte Shmyr fouled out. Marg Mainwaring paced Victoria with 17. Lorna McHattie added 14. Edna Ritchie nabbed 13 boards. Val Kallis led Alberta with 11 points and 6 boards. …………………………………………………… In game two, Alberta prevailed 41-33. The Pandas defence was sterling and they were patient on offence, working the ball slowly up the floor until they found a foot shot. Alberta took a 12-point lead and stalled for the last four minutes. Coach Deb Shogan said “we attacked similarly to Friday. By pressuring the guards all the way up the floor, we cut off their drive. It was the best 40 minutes of basketball we’ve played. We finally put an entire team together. Kathy Moore led Alberta with 10. Deena Mitchell added 8. Charlotte Shmyr nabbed 11 boards. The Bears slowed the game to a crawl and clawed within two but UBC went into a stall for the final three minutes and added the insurance marker with three seconds on the clock.
