In the semis, Victoria defeated Saskatchewan 96-59 as Kelly Dukeshire scored 28, Quinn Groenehyde 15, Eli Pasquale 14, Tom Narbeshuber 14, Gerald Kazanowski 7, Dave Sheehan 6, Gerald Kazanowski 4, Ryan Burles 2 and Dan Brosseuk 4, while Phil Ohl was scoreless. Rick Johnson paced the Huskies with 10. Gary Beckie added 9, John Dewar 9, Martin Peters 8, John De Goede 7, Gary Nunn 6, Dave Wilson 6 and Paul Humbert 4, while Dave Patok and Bob Irvine were scoreless.
In the other semi, Calgary defeated Alberta 82-59 as Karl Tilleman scored 35 on 15-28 from the floor. The Dinosaurs led 37-32 at the half. Mike Kornak paced the Golden Bears with 16. James Pratt added 12, Leon Bynoe 9 and Fred Murrell 3. Alberta scored just four points in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Tilleman told the Calgary Herald that “our defence was great. We allowed them just 27 points and the offence took care of itself.” Dinosaurs coach Tom Bishop said the key was containing Kornak. “The other people on the team are not going to carry them. Their main leaders have to do it.”
In the bronze medal match, Saskatchewan defeated Alberta 92-84 as John De Goede scored 26. Leon Bynoe led the Golden Bears with 25. Ron Hepburn added 18. The Golden Bears (coached by Brian Heaney) also included James Pratt, Mike Kornak, Brian Jones, Willie Delas, Fred Murrell, Jay Loukes, Darrell Smith, John Waterhouse, Mike McDonald, Ken Ashacker, Tim Becker and Dick Price.
In the final, Victoria defeated Calgary 96-83 as Gerald Kazanowski scored 23, Tom Narbeshuber 21, Eli Pasquale 20, Kelly Dukeshire 16, Quinn Groenhyde 8 and Greg Kazanowski 8, while Ryan Burles, Phil Ohl, Dan Brosseuk and Dave Sheehan were scoreless. The Vikings led 47-42 at the half. Karl Tilleman paced Calgary with 35. Steve Doty added 14, Bill Nash 13, Tim Meagher 9, Dave Arthurs 4, Donovan Lawrence 4 and John Rhodin 4, while Dave Anderson, Steve Cahoon and John Olsen were scoreless. The Dinosaurs rallied to within six with four minutes to play when Victoria pulled away. Dinosaurs coach Tom Bishop told The Gauntlet that his troops “played really well … (but) Victoria just played a better game.” The Dinosaurs out rebounded Victoria 22-20, but gave up 11 turnovers to the Viking’s 6. “We slowed the game down as much as we could,” said Bishop.
After the season, Bob Molinski resigned at U.B.C. because the school refused to hire him full-time. He was replaced by Bill Edwards.
