In the playoffs (a best-of-three final, no semis) Victoria swept Saskatchewan 75-54; 65-53 (2g-0).
In game one, Victoria thumped Saskatchewan 75-54. The Huskies were within six with five minutes to play but then Murray Redekopp fouled out and Vic went on a 19-6 run. Craig Higgins scored 15, Eli Pasquale 13, Gerald Kazanowski 12. Vic led 30-29 at half. Mark Redekopp scored 20 for Huskies as did brother Murray. Huskies assistant coach Ken Schildroth noted that “they just needed something to give them confidence and that was it,” (i.e., Redekopp fouling out). “Something that killed us was 23 turnovers to their 16. But when you get down to it, we played three quarters of a game and they played a whole game.”
In the second contest, Victoria defeated Saskatchewan 65-53. The Huskies played without Murray Redekopp, who was out with a bad back and consequently lacked scoring punch. Gerald Kazanowski led Victoria with 14, Bruce Hamilton added 12, Craig Higgins 7, Tom Narbeshuber 7, Dan Brosseuk 6, Greg Kazanowski 4, Eli Pasquale 3, Ryan Burles 2, Dave Sheehan 2 and Ken Larson 2, while Phil Ohl was scoreless. Mark Redekopp led Saskatchewan with 19. Mark Ketler added 14, Gary Beckie 8, John de Goede 4, Paul Humbert 4 and Dave Wilson 4, while Clair Campbell, Mark Peters, Murray Redekopp and John Dewar was scoreless. Huskies coach Guy Vetrie told The Sheaf that “the bench got to us. For 35 minutes, it was a very close game.”
After the season, Peter Mullins take’s a year’s sabbatical. He is replaced for the year by ex-T-Bird Bob Molinski, who’d been coaching Argyle High for the past 10 years.
