        In the regular season, Victoria wins the league with a (12-8) record. U.B.C., Alberta and Calgary finish tied for second with (13-7) records. But U.B.C. qualifies for the playoffs by virtue of defeating Alberta 3g-1 during the regular season and outpointing Calgary by 12 in their split of four regular season games. In the last game of the season, Calgary stunned Alberta 55-53 to force the three-way tie for second.

        In the playoffs (a best of 3 finals, no semis), U.B.C. defeated Victoria 61-58; 57-56 (2g-0).

        In game one, although centre Ross Davidson was playing with a broken jaw he’d suffered in a traffic accident late in the season, U.B.C. edged Victoria 61-58 as Mike McKay and Blake Iverson rallied the Thunderbirds from 12 behind with 10 minutes to play. Steve Pettifer, playing with the flu scored only 8. But McKay scored 17, Iverson 12, Ken Bowman 8, Ralph Turner 6, Chris Trumpy 4, Randy Allan 2, Brian Sutherland-Brown 2 and Bob Dunlop 2, while Ed Lewis was scoreless. U.B.C. had been 1-3 versus Victoria in the regular season. The second half rally saw U.B.C. take its first lead of the contest with two minutes to go. Bowagg iced the win with two free throws in the final seconds. Jim Duddridge led the Vikings with 14. Lee Edmondson added 11, Robbie Paris 8, Evan Jones 7, Bert Zethof 6, Lorne Dakin 6, Pard Hogeweide 4 and Doug Mosher 2, while Dale MacDonald and Dave Speed were scoreless.

        In the second contest, U.B.C. again rallied from behind in the second half to win 57-56. Victoria had been ahead 38-28 at the half but the Thunderbird defence closed down the interior passing lanes in the second half to eke out the victory. Pettifer, who hit the winning jumper with 18 seconds to go on the clock, led all scorers with 19. Mike McKay added 12, Ralph Turner 10, Randy Allan 7, Chris Trumpy 4, Brian Sutherland-Brown 4 and, Blake Iverson 3, while Ken Bowman, Ed Lewis and Bo Dunlop were scoreless. Robbie Parris paced Victoria with 16 and Edmondson, who missed a short jumper with seven seconds to go which would have given Victoria the victory, added 13. Pard Hogeweide scored 9, Jim Duddridge 8, Bert Zethof 4, Evan Jones 4, Dale MacDonald 2 and Lorne Dakin 2, while Doug Mosher and Dave Mulcahy were scoreless.
