Against Saskatchewan, Alberta defeated the Huskies 61-57 in overtime in their first game as Dave Thomson scored 12, Harry Beleshko 12, Maury Van Vliet 11 and Jack Hicken 10. Alberta trailed 51-41 with five minutes to play but rallied to force overtime at 53-53 as Dave Thomson hit a bucket. The teams traded bucket in the extra session before Alex Carre gave Alberta the lead for good on a putback bucket. Jack Hicken iced the win with a pair of free throws with 10 seconds on the clock. Dave Thomson and Harry Beleshko each scored in double figures for Alberta. Mel Huszti and Art Kempthorne each notched 13 to paced the Huskies.
