Alberta defeated Saskatchewan 37-26; 37-34; 50-35; and 55-27. The Bears included sparkling rookie Steve Mendryk, who later went on to become the coach. They also featured Jim MacRae and Cardston’s Lowell Williams, as well as rookie Ole Nielson.
Manitoba did not enter league play. The Bisons (coached by Acey Olson, equipment manager Charles Wade) included Jack Willet, Don MacDougall, Don Reid, Al Cromarty, Doug English, Doug McCord, Rae Tallin, Roy Williams, Carl Ridd, Keith Lamont and Edward Childe.
Visiting Alberta clipped Saskatchewan 37-26 and 37-34. The Gateway reported that Bears coach Maury Van Vliet described the action as “football – the roughest games I have seen in 15 years of basketball coaching. There wasn’t much effort made to play basketball. If fouls had been called properly, it would have been a steady parade to the foul line.
