        A round robin tourney held at Edmonton. Alberta defeats Manitoba 59-48 and Saskatchewan 49-27 to win Rigby Cup. It was coach Maury Van Vliet’s second year at the helm. Alberta entered two teams in the Edmonton city league, where they finished 1-2. The Bears also captured the provincial senior championship by defeating the Raymond Union Jacks in two straight games. Among the Bears was Eric Geddes, who later became chair of the U of A board of governors.

        Alberta thrashed Saskatchewan 49-27. Alberta led 25-9 at the half. Bill Price kept the pressure on the Huskies in the second frame and Saskatchewan never threatened. Jim Macrae paced Alberta with 11. Bill Price added 9, Boyd Oberhoffner 8, Lefty Strother 6, Bill Rich 5, Eric Geddes 4, Don Blue 3 and Don Steed 2, while Phil Proctor, Gord McCormack, Evan Erickson and Alf Savage were scoreless. Mike Sharpe paced Saskatchewan with 7. Jim Scott added 6, Chuck Fewster 5, Norm Cram 4, Jim McFadyen 3 and Les Williams 2.

        Saskatchewan nipped Manitoba 39-37. The Huskies led 25-17 at the half. Jim McFadyen paced Saskatchewan with 14. Bill Winterton added 4, Jim Scott 4, Chuck Fewster 4, Norm Cram 4, Mike Sharp 3, Tom Foskett 2, Lou Kendry 2 and Les Williams 2, while George Grant and Ivan King were scoreless. Roy Williams paced Manitoba with 14. Bunky Templin added 13, Rae Tallin 4, Eddie Pollock 3, Clint McFarlane 2 and Fred McPherson 1, while McPhail, Russ Jordan, Art Foster and Don Reid were scoreless. Bison coach Pat Twomey was the school’s first “salaried” mentor.

Don Steed added 14, Boyd Oberhoffner 9, Bill Rich 6, Gord McCormack 4, Lefty Strother 4, Evan Erickson 3, Eric Geddes 2 and Bill Price 2, while Phil Proctor, Don Blue and Alf Savage were scoreless. Roy Williams led Manitoba with 19. Bunky Templin added 11, Clint McFarlane 6, Eddie Pollock 4, Russ Jordan 4, Art Foster 2 and Fred McPherson 2, while John McPhail, Rae Tallin and Don Reid were scoreless.
