In the other quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded U.P.E.I. Panthers nipped the 6th-seeded New Brunswick Varsity Reds 75-73 as Deborah Aboagye notched the winner with 0.9 seconds to play. The Panthers led 25-17 after one quarter and 44-32 at the half. The score was knotted at 55 after three quarters after Varsity Red Lillian Fuller hit a trey at the buzzer. The Varsity Reds took a five-point lead midway through the final frame on back-to-back buckets by Ann Bastien and Katie Butts. But Panther Devon Lawlor drained two treys and a layup as UPEI took a 69-66 lead with 2:39 to play. The teams traded free throws with the Panthers leading 73-70 with four seconds remaining. New Brunswick called a timeout and inbounded the ball to Bastien, who drilled a trey. UPEI called a timeout. Lauren Rainford inbounded the ball to Abby Miller, who spotted Aboagye open under the bucket. She laid it in for the winner. Panthers guard and player of the game Lauren Rainford said “we stayed composed. We had to battle this entire game. Things don’t always turn out the way you want them to go but we stayed composed. In the semis, the top-seeded St. Mary’s Huskies torched the 5th-seeded Cape Breton Capers 89-58. The Capers led 14-11 after one quarter and 32-31 at the half. The Huskies led 58-44 after three quarters. Huskies post and player of the game Clara Gascoigne said “our first half wasn’t our best basketball, but we were getting used to playing here and had some jitters and nerves. But we came out in the second half and played really well as a team. We had some really good defensive stops and defense tends to turn into offense for us.” Clara Gascoigne paced the Huskies with 24 on 10-22 from the floor, 2-7 from the arc, 2-2 from the line, 4 boards, 8 assists and 4 steals. In the final, the top-seeded Saint Mary’s Huskies dispatched the 3rd-seeded U.P.E.I. Panthers 68-53 after leading 20-10, 40-22 and 62-40 at the quarters. The win gave the Huskies their third consecutive AUS crown. “I’m so happy right now, I’m so happy for my team. I love them so much,” Huskies forward and player of the game Lucina Beaumont said. “It’s a good feeling.” Lucina Beaumont paced the Huskies with 19 on 6-10 from the floor, 3-5 from the arc, 4-4 from the line, 12 boards and 2 assists.
