In the quarterfinals, the 5th-seeded Acadia Axettes dumped the 4th-seeded U.P.E.I. Panthers 80-66. The Panthers led 20-17 after one quarter but Paloma Anderson rallied the Axewomen to a 35-31 lead at the half. The Axewomen maintained a narrow 52-50 lead after three quarters and then pulled away in the final frame as player of the game Chanel Smith took command. “We’re so excited and so hungry. We feel like a totally different team than last year so we are ready for it for sure,” said Smith. Paloma Anderson paced the Axewomen with 21 on 8-20 from the floor, 0-2 from the arc, 5-7 from the line, 12 boards and 2 steals. Chanel Smith added 20 on 7-20 from the floor, 3-5 from the arc, 3-3 from the line, 7 boards and 4 assists. Alexandra Berry added 16 on 5-12 from the floor, 6-9 from the line and 12 boards.         In the other quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded Cape Breton Capers nipped the 6th-seeded Memorial Sea-Hawks 55-53. The score was knotted at 12 after one quarter. The Sea-Hawks led 27-20 at the half after Sydney Stewart got on track. The Capers led 46-39 after three quarters as Jalynn Skeir kept aggressively attacking off the dribble. The Sea-Hawks closed within 2 down the stretch. Jalynn Skeir paced the Capers with 24 on 9-13 from the floor and 6-9 from the arc. Alison Keough added 8 on 3-13 from the floor, 2-4 from the line, 9 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals. In the semis, the 5th-seeded Acadia Axettes stunned the top-seeded St. Mary’s Huskies 77-71. Acadia led 16-13 after one quarter as Paloma Anderson notched 10. The Axewomen extended their margin to 37-31 at the half and the margin topped double digits as Chanel Smith drilled a trey early in the second half.  Acadia led 57-49 after three quarters and maintained a comfortable lead until the final buzzer by hitting a raft of free throws. Paloma Anderson was chosen player of the game for Axewomen, while Courtney Cain-Nordin earned the laurels for the Huskies. In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Cape Breton Capers knocked off the 2nd-seeded University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds 56-52. The Capers broke to a 9-2 lead but the Varsity Reds forced a number of turnovers off their full-court press as they rallied to within 15-12 after one quarter. The Varsity Reds clawed to a 27-23 lead at the half. The Capers rallied back into the lead before Laura Kaye hit a trey to give UNB a 34-33 lead. The score was knotted at 40 after three quarters. Jalynn Skeir drained a trey to give the Capers a five-point lead, which they parlayed into a 51-44 edge with four minutes to play. Grace Wade hit 1-2 from the line to draw the Varsity Reds within 3 with 26 seconds remaining on the clock but the Capers held on for the win. Allison Keough was chosen player of the game for the Capers, while Hannah Currie earned the laurels for the Varsity Reds.         In the final, the 3rd-seeded Cape Breton Capers clubbed the 5th-seeded Acadia Axewomen 79-61. The Axewomen led 6-2 early but the Capers rallied to take the lead on a trey by Natasha Roach and extended the margin to 19-11 after one quarter. A buzzer-beating trey by Katie Ross drew Acadia within 28-26 at the half. The score was knotted at 52 after regulation. Valentina Primossi gave the Capers the lead on a trey down the stretch and they slowly pulled away from the Axewomen. Primossi was chosen player of the game for the Caper, while Marika Vanden Elzen earned the laurels for the Axewomen.
