Two weeks before the start of the season, Reagh Vidito resigns as coach of Prince Edward Island, citing “personal reasons,” and saying he was unable to devote as much as needed to the post. Assistants Chris Annett and Brian Chambers had tendered their resignations a week earlier.

In the quarterfinals, the New Brunswick Red Bloomers defeated St. Francis Xavier 75-65 despite trailing 39-34 at the half. Christie McBride led New Brunswick with 19 on 5-18 from the floor, 9-13 from the line and 3 boards. Leah Corby scored 19 on 5-11 from the floor, 4-9 from the arc, 5-8 from the line and 4 boards. Kathleen Singh notched 12 on 4-6 from the floor, 4-6 from the line and 9 boards. Katelyn Springer added 9 on 4-11 from the floor and 7 boards. Amanda Sharpe scored 6 on 1-11 from the floor, 4-8 from the line and 8 boards. Elizabeth Marr scored 6 on 2-4 from the floor and 2-2 from the line. Jessica Steed added 2 and Angela Aydon 2, while Jill Rowe was scoreless.         In the other quarterfinal, Cape Breton stomped St. Mary’s 73-57 after leading 38-30 at the half.

        In the semis, Dalhousie nipped New Brunswick 71-69 after leading 37-32 at the half. April Scott led the Tigers with 19 points on 9-16 from the floor and 5 assists. Alex Legge added 13 on 5-10 from the floor, 3-4 from the line, 6 boards and 3 assists. Kathleen McNeill added 12 on 5-13 from the floor, 2-4 from the line and 14 boards. Kelly Donald scored 12 on 4-11 from the floor, 1-2 from the arc, 3-4 from the line and 6 assists. Laurie Girdwood notched 9 on 4-8 from the floor, 8 boards and 2 steals. Rachael Harrison added 3 and Tamara Mijatovic 3, while Leah Girdwood and Brittany Sullivan were scoreless. In the other semi, Memorial stomped Cape Breton 78-61. Meagan Seaward led Memorial with 18 on 7-14 from the floor, 4-4 from the line and 6 boards. Kelly Himmelman added 14 on 5-7 from the floor, 3-4 from the arc and 1-1 from the line. Erin Mullaley added 13 on 4-8 from the floor, 3-5 from the arc, 2-2 from the line and 3 steals. Victoria Thistle notched 12 on 5-7 from the floor, 2-4 from the line, 4 boards and 2 steals. Katherine Quackenbush scored 6 on 2-9 from the floor, 1-2 from the arc, 5 boards and 3 assists. Krista Singleton added 4, Meghan Dalton 5, Melissa Prunty 4 and Paula Barker 2. The Sea-Hawks hit 30-63 (.476) from the floor, 8-13 (.615) from the arc and 10-13 (.769) from the line, while garnering 32 boards, including 8 on the offensive glass, 11 assists, 24 fouls, 12 turnovers, 9 steals and 4 blocks. Cecilia Romero led Cape Breton with 16 on 7-13 from the floor, 2-4 from the arc, 6 boards and 2 steals. Debralee Ruiz added 13 on 4-11 from the floor, 5-9 from the line and 3 boards. In the final, Memorial defeated Dalhousie 68-43. The teams started very tentatively as almost 4:00 go by before the first points of the contest. Leah Girdwood opens the scoring for Dal. Paula Barker answered back with a trey. Dalhousie led 10-9 after one quarter. Victoria Thistle provided a defensive spark for Memorial but was soon forced to the bench with foul trouble. MVP and Defensive player of the year Katherine Quackenbush then stepped up. Memorial called a time out with 20 seconds left to draw up the last shot of the half, which led to a pair of Melissa Prunty free throws that gave Memorial a 31-25 lead at the half. The 3rd quarter was all MUN as they open with an 8-2 run. Defensively, they forced 11 Tiger turnovers and converted the vast majority of them into transition buckets. Through 3 quarters, the turnover stat line had Dalhousie with 20 turnovers compared to only 4 for the Sea-Hawks. The Sea-Hawks outscored the Tigers 23-5 in the quarter and led 54-30 with 10 minutes to go. The Sea-Hawks pick up their 4th AUS title since 2002 with a 68-43 final. Katherine Quackenbush paced the Sea-Hawks with 18 points on 6-13 from the floor, 6-6 from the line, 3 boards and 6 steals. Victoria Thistle added 15 on 6-10 from the floor, 3-4 from the line, 6 boards and 2 steals. Paula Barker added 11 on 4-6 from the floor, 1-2 from the line, 2-2 from the line and 4 boards.
