Formerly the Maritime Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Until 1964, when the MIAA was officially created, universities in Nova Scotia played in their own league, and those in New Brunswick/PEI played in a separate league, with the winners facing off for the Maritime title.

The AUAA (now the AUS) was officially created in 1974-75.
