       The AUAA was officially formed April 25-74 from the members of the AIAA and AWIAA, i.e., Acadia, Dalhousie, Memorial, Moncton, Mt. Allison, New Brunswick, PEI, St. FX, Saint Mary’s, St. Thomas, and King’s College as an associate. The AWIAA had also included Mt. St. Vincent, and associates were NSAC, NS Teachers College and the St. John’s campus of the U of New Brunswick. At the meeting, it was decided that King’s not be included in basketball because “the athletic program is only at the junior varsity level.”

       In the regular season, Saint Mary’s romped to an (11-1) record.

       In the semis, the Acadia Axemen defeated the Mount Allison Huskies 86-70. The Axemen took command on three Taylor buckets that broke open a 60-60 contest. Saunders led the Axemen with 27. Taylor added 20 and Wells 10. Acadia led 43-39 at the half. Keenan led the Hawks with 22. Stewart added 17.

       In the other semi, the Saint Mary’s Huskies dusted the Prince Edward Island Panthers 109-83 as Thomas scored 32 and Fox 23. Art Laffin led the Panthers with 28.

       In the bronze medal match, the Mount Allison Huskies thrashed the Prince Edward Island Panthers 88-60 as Millard scored 22 and Stewart 21. Laffin led the Panthers with 28. The Panthers (coached by Gary Heald) also included Mike Connolly, Phil Connolly, Jamie Ballem, Matthew Cutts, Bruce DeBarros, Tom Hibbert, Anson MacLauchlin, Jay Mongrone, Butch Postma, Gary Young and Beck.

       In the postseason final, the Saint Mary’s Huskies defeated Acadia 83-77 as Fox scored 19, Thomas 17 and Dye 16. Huskies coach Brian Heaney told Canadian Press that Dye dominated the blocks and boards. “Boy, he did do it for us. He gave us what we asked for.” Wells led the Axemen with 27. Taylor added 18 and Leighton 16. Acadia coach Dick Hunt said “I was happy with my team’s performance. Acadia players don’t die. They gave it the best.”
