       In the sudden death playoff match, the New Brunswick Red Raiders defeated Saint Mary’s 67-62 as Rick Cotter scored 20, Don Patterson 18, along with 11 boards, Dave Nutbrown 16, Rod Cox 7 and Dave Hill 6. Jim Daniels led Saint Mary’s with 18. Joe O’Reilly added 15, Clem Maynard 13, Al Brown 10, Rick Dougherty 4 and Terry Murphy 2. The Varsity Reds won their first conference title since 1945. The Huskies led 21-16 after one quarter. The Varsity Red led 35-29 at the half UNB led by a point with 30 seconds to play. Forced to foul, Saint Mary’s twice put Rick Cotter on the line in the last 20 seconds of play. He hit all four free throws. Rod Cox scored the winning bucket. The Red Raiders also participated in the Maine-based Northeast Conference, during which Dave Nutbrown was selected all-conference for UNB.
