        In the Nova Scotia semis, the Acadia Axemen swept the Dalhousie Tigers 71-44; 87-40 (2g-0). …………………………………………………… In the opening contest, Ian Hendry scored 14, Ritchie Spears 14, Gene Chatterton 14, Pete Simmonds 13, Mike Tzagarakis 8, Chester, Pa.-born Warren Sutton 4 and Andy Kranack 2 as Acadia coasted to a 71-44 win. The Axemen led 30-22 at the half and quickly extended their lead to 27 in the second half. Dalhousie was paced by George Benedelier 12, George Blakeney 10, Peter Nicholson 6, Ted Brown 6, Stewart 4, Schiffman 4, Jamie Richardson 2 and Peter House 2. The Axemen hit .433 from the floor and 19-29 from the line, while the Tigers hit .260 from the floor and 10-21 from the line. …………………………………………………… In game two, Acadia prevailed 87-40 as Richie Spears scored 21, Warren Sutton 21, Gene Chatterton 15, Peter Simmonds 11, Dixon 7, Tzagarakis 5, Hendry 4, Kranack 2 and Hiltz 1, while Pigden was scoreless. Dalhousie was led by Bruce Stewart 7, Peter Nicholson 7, Peter House 7, George Bendelier 7, Al Murray 6, Red Brown 4 and George Blakeney 2, while Jamie Richardson and Bill Robertson were scoreless.         In the other semi, Saint Mary’s defeated St. FX 57-72; 70-46; 70-57 (2g-1). …………………………………………………… St. FX took the opener over Saint Mary’s 72-57 after assuming command in the second half to break open a 32-32 halftime contest. Jay Ashe led St. FX with 22 while Terry Daigle added 14 and Ernie Foshay 14. Saint Mary’s was paced by Bob Healy 15, Bob Lahey 14, Lou Airoldi 10 and John Riley 4. …………………………………………………… In game two, Saint Mary’s took a 34-24 halftime lead, and were ahead 50-33 in the third quarter before coasting to a 70-46 victory. Bob Healy scored 23, including 11-13 from the line, while Bob Lahey added 20, John Riley 9 and Mike Cox 6. St. FX was led by Bernie Bouchey 13, Al Lacey 8 and Jay Ashe 7. …………………………………………………… The final match was a close contest until the second half when Saint Mary’s took control and marched to a 70-57 victory. St. FX was led by Jay Ashe 15, Bernie Bouchey 14 and Terry Daigle 13.         In the Nova Scotia finals, Acadia swept Saint Mary’s 89-68; 66-53 (2g-0). …………………………………………………… Acadia won the opener 89-68 as Warren Sutton scored 20 in the second half, most off of fadeaway jumpers. Acadia had led 29-24 after fifteen minutes before exploding to a 44-29 halftime lead. Warren Sutton finished with 32, Gene Chatterton 14, Ritchie Spears 11, Halifax-born Pete Simmonds 11, Blair Dixon 9 and Andy Kranack 4. Saint Mary’s was led by Bob Lahey 21, Manchester, N.H.-born Bob Healey 12, John Riley 10, Loui Airoldi 8 and Mike Cox 9. …………………………………………………… The second contest was somewhat closer as Acadia took a 29-23 halftime lead before pulling away to a 66-53 victory and its first NS title in 28 years. Acadia shot 31-40 from the line while Saint Mary’s shot 20-27. Warren Sutton led Acadia scorers with 27, while Ritchie Spears added 13 and Gene Chatterton 10. Lewiston, Maine-product Bob Lahey led the Huskies with 21. The Huskies also included John Riley, Bob Healy, Joe O’Sullivan, Fred Walker, Kirby Connors, Mike Cox, Lou Airoldi, Jim Herrick, Frank Murray, Bob Padden, Tom Tsoumas, Brian Ross.

        In the Maritime finals, Acadia defeated New Brunswick 72-42; 58-67 (T: 130-109).

        Acadia opened with a 72-42 pasting of New Brunswick after exploding from the gates with a 20-2 run. Acadia shot 41% from the floor, out-rebounded UNM 52-20 and totally destroyed UNB’s attempt to control the tempo through a slowdown ball control game. Gene Chatterton, from Fredericton N.B., scored 24, Warren Sutton 18, Ritchie Spears 16, Peter Simmonds 10 and Blair Dixon 4. The Varsity Reds were led by Ted Tomchak 12, Frannie McHugh 8, Broene 6, Miller 5, Dan Morgan 5, Wiseman 4 and Lay 2.

In the second game, Acadia rolled to a 67-58 victory while overcoming a 33-28 halftime deficit. UNB shot 15-29 from the line, while Acadia hit 13-19. Acadia was led by Ian Hendry 17, Ritchie Spears 18, Warren Sutton 8, Peter Simmonds 7, Gene Chatterton 6 and Andy Kranack 1. UNB was paced by Ted Tomchak 20, Frannie McHugh 15, Dan Morgan 12, Browne 10 and Ken Harvey 3.
