After tying New Brunswick with a 3-1 record in the regular season of NB-PEI play, Mount Allison advanced to the Maritime playoffs by virtue of points differential in games between the two. Coached by Gus McFarlane and led by Wayne McKay, the Mounties captured their first crown in 10 seasons.

Ed Browne led the Varsity Reds with 13. Miller added 6, Morgan 6, Baber 5, Rylander 4, McHugh 3, Hyndman 3, Casey 3 and McCordick 2.
In the Nova Scotia semis, St. FX defeated Dalhousie 58-61; 69-40; 78-50 (2g-1). …………………………………………………… In game one, the fourth place Tigers upset St. FX 61-58 to win its first game of the season in conference play as Ted Wickwire scored 22, Bob Schurman 16, Bruce Stewart 9, Ron Simmons 8 and Wilson 6, while Ted Brown, Brian Noonan, Lorne Fisher, Cunningham, Gordon Morrison and Bill Robertson were scoreless. Jim Walsh had hit two free throws to bring St. FX within one, 59-58. But on the ensuing play, he fouled Dal’s Stewart, who missed both free throws. Ted Wickwire nabbed the rebounded and was fouled by Gerry Sullivan. Wickwire hit both to ensure the Dal victory. Dalhousie had been ahead 34-25 at the half. Bob Moran scored 19 to pace St. FX. Paul Davenport added 17, Jim Walsh 11, Gerald Sullivan 7 and John Civiello 4, while Dave Gouthro, Terry Daigle, John Tapley, Gerry Blair and John Ashe were scoreless. The Tigers dominated the boards early as they set the X-Men on their heels. The Tigers led 34-25 at the half. Jim Walsh hit a pair of buckets and Paul Davenport a bucket as the X-Men rallied within 58-58. The Tigers hit 25-55 (.454) from the floor and 21-30 from the line. The X-Men hit .351 from the floor and 8-12 from the line. …………………………………………………… In the second game, St. FX showed its form taking a 7-2 lead at start and stretching its margin to 28-4 as they totally dominated en route to a 69-40 victory. The X-Men’s defence smothered the Tigers and they struggled to find any manner of open look, particularly in the paint. St. FX also dominated the boards. Paul Davenport scored 15, Bob Moran 14, Ernie Foshay 8, Gerry Sullivan 6, Terry Daigle 6, John Ashe 6 and John Civiello 4. Dal was paced by Ted Wickwire 11 and Ted Brown 11. …………………………………………………… In the deciding contest, St. FX annihilated Dal 78-50 after taking a 27-13 lead at the quarter and a 36-28 lead at the half. The Tigers rallied with 42-39 in the second half but the X-Men exploded for a 17-0 run to take a commanding 59-39 lead. St. FX was led by Bob Moran 21, Paul Davenport 15, Jim Walsh 15, Gerry Sullivan 8 and Ernie Foshay 7. Dal was paced by Ted Wickwire 15, Ted Brown 13, Bruce Stewart 11 and Lorne Fisher 11. The Tigers (coached by Merv Shaw and managed by Mike Noble) also included Robert Schurman, Ronald Simmons, Pete Wilson, Cam Smith, Charlie Brown, Bill Somerville, Gordon Morrison, Brian Noonan, Bill Robertson.
In the other semi, Acadia defeated Saint Mary’s 61-74; 66-60; 69-55 (2g-1). …………………………………………………… In game one, Saint Mary’s opened with a 74-61 upset of Acadia as 6-5 Halifax native Fred Walker scored 16, including four of the final deciding points. Acadia had rallied to within 52-48 when Saint Mary’s replied with an 8-0 run, half of which were scored by Walker. Bob Healy and Mike Cox added field goals. Saint Mary’s was ahead 36-10 before Acadia rallied to within 12 at the half 36-24. Saint Mary’s was led by Bob Padden 14, Bob Healy 14, Mike Cox 10 and Manchester, N.H. native John Riley 9. Acadia was led by Pete Haley 21, Pete Simmonds 20 and Jim Mosher 9. …………………………………………………… In the second game, Acadia responded with a 66-60 victory after taking a 31-29 lead at the half. Blair Dixon led Axemen with 18, St. John, N.B. native Gene Chatterton 15 and Pete Haley 12. Saint Mary’s was paced by John Riley 18 and Fred Walker 16. …………………………………………………… In the deciding game, Acadia took a 69-55 victory after leading 10-3 after five minutes. Saint Mary’s rallied to tie it at 23 but Gene Chatterton scored five straight to give Acadia a 28-23 halftime lead which they never relinquished. Pete Simmonds scored 19, Gene Chatterton 15 and Pete Haley 13. Saint Mary’s was led by Bob Healy’s 20 points. The Huskies (coached by Frank Baldwin) also included Airoldi, Tsoumis, Rancourt, Jim O’Sullivan, Manchester, N.H.-product John Riley, Joe O’Sullivan, Cox, Hal Pheeney, Fred Walker, Cos Marandos, Red Patten.
In the Nova Scotia final, St. FX defeated Acadia 80-75; x-x (2g-0). …………………………………………………… The X-Men captured their 14th consecutive NSIBL title, winning the opener 80-75 after taking a 44-33 lead at the half. Portland, Maine native Bob Moran scored 20, as did Portland, Maine native Ernie Foshay 18, Paul Davenport 16, Gerald Sullivan 16, Dave Guthro 1, Jim Walsh 5 and Terry Daigle 4. Acadia’s Pete Simmonds was out with a torn ligament and the Axemen were led by Gene Chatterton who scored 27 despite playing with a cast on his wrist, while Blair Dixon added 20 and Pete Haley 10. …………………………………………………… In the second game, St. FX roared out with a 11-0 run and took a 25-6 lead after the 10-minute mark. Acadia’s Earl McCurdy and St. FX’s Bob Moran collided at the eleven minute mark. McCurdy emerged with a broken nose; Moran with a bruised forehead. St. FX led 45-24 at the half and remained in control through the second half. Bob Moran scored 22, Paul Davenport 18, Jim Walsh 17 and Ernie Foshay 14. St. FX hit 12-20 from the line while Acadia was 12-15. Acadia was paced by John Mosher 20, including 15 in the second half, Pete Haley 13 and Gene Chatterton 12. The Axemen (coached by Stu Aberdeen) also included Pete Simmonds, Blair Dixon, D Armstrong, D Hilts, B Dick, E McCurdy.
In the Maritime finals, St. FX defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 67-65; 76-64 (T: 143-129).
In game one, St. FX nipped Mount Allison 67-65 as Jim Walsh hit a free throw with 30 seconds remaining to tie the game and then hit the winning field goal on a 30-foot jumper with seconds left on the clock. Walsh finished with 14, Paul Davenport added 13, Houlton-Maine native Bob Moran 16, Ernie Foshay 9, John Ashe 2, Gerald Sullivan 4 and Terry Daigle 9. St. FX shot .350 from the floor and 12-23 from the line, while Mount Allison hit .380 from the floor but a mere 9-21 from the line. The Mounties were led by Barrie-native 6-7 centre Herb Mays, who scored 35, including 24 in the second half. Wayne Mackay added 11, Dick Hayden 11, Windsor 4 and Cuthbertson 4.
In game two, St. FX swept the series with a 76-64 victory after rallying from behind after the first quarter, when Mount Allison led 18-15. St. FX led 31-22 at the half. Paul Davenport led all scorers with 32. Bob Moran added 17, Jim Walsh 15, Ernie Foshay 4, John Ashe 6 and Terry Daigle 2. Mount Allison was paced by Herb Mays 30, Wayne Mackay 14, Cuthbertson 4, Dick Hayden 14 and Windsor 2. St. FX took the series 143-129 and received the trophy from Bob Reid, a centre on Mount Allison’s 1919 squad, who’d been flown in from Connecticut to present the trophy.
