        In NB-PEI play, all three teams finished 2-2 but Mount Allison, coached by Gus McFarlane, moved onto the Maritime playoffs by virtue of its better point spread in games between the trio. The Mounties had defeated UPEI earlier in the year by a wide margin although they’d lost to UPEI 64-62 on the final night of the season. During the campaign, the Mounties joined UNB in the Northeast Conference league.

        In the best of three Nova Scotia semis, St. FX swept Acadia 67-62; 73-62 (2g-0). …………………………………………………… In game one, St. FX prevailed 67-62. Despite trailing early, St. FX rallied to a 33-29 halftime lead and held on as Paul Davenport scored 32, including 13 field goals, before fouling out with four minutes to go. Bob Moran added 10, Ernie Foshay 9 and Joe Sanborn 9. Acadia was led by Frank Davis 19, Pete Haley 14 and Paul Armstrong 10. …………………………………………………… In game two, St. FX took a 37-30 halftime lead and coasted to a 73-62 victory as Paul Davenport scored 31, including 7-12 free throws, Jim Walsh added 18 and Bob Moran 16 for St. FX which shot 13-18 from the line. Acadia was led by Gene Chatterton 19, Pete Haley 18 and Paul ‘Dazey’ Armstrong 10. The Axemen also included Jim Davis, Al Yarr, Jim Mosher, John Moody, Earl McCurdy, Don Fox, Brothers, Frank Davis.

        In the other semi, Saint Mary’s defeated Dalhousie 61-65; 59-48; 60-52 (2g-1). …………………………………………………… Dalhousie upset Saint Mary’s 65-61 in the opener as Ted Wickwire hit two free throws to give the Tigers the insurance margin in the final minute of play. Ted Wickwire scored 10, Bill White 12, Dave Woodworth 11, Bruce Stewart 11 and Al Murray 10 in the Dal victory. The Tigers led 39-37 at the half. The Tigers dominated the boards and capitalized heavily on Huskie foul trouble. Dalhousie led 62-61 with two minutes to play and attempted to freeze the ball, forcing the Huskies to foul Ted Wickwire, who calmly nailed both free throws to ice the win. Saint Mary’s was led by Bill Mullane 26 and John Riley 17. …………………………………………………… Host Saint Mary’s showed its regular season form in the second contest, winning 59-48 after closing a tight 50-48 game with a 9-0 run, mostly at the free throw line. Saint Mary’s had been ahead 28-20 at the half. The Tigers rallied to within three with 5 minutes to play but the Huskies (then the Saints) ragged the ball, forced the Tigers to foul and iced the win at the line. John Riley paced the Huskies with 27. Bill Mullane added 12, Brian Ross 11, Walker 7 and Rancourt 2, while Osborne, Kelly, Fisher, Mason, Burke, Shea and Cooper were scoreless. Bill White paced the Tigers with 22. Ted Wickwire added 7, Dave Woodworth 5, Al Murray 4, Nick Weatherston 3, Warren Nickerson 3, Bruce Stewart 2 and Simmons 2, while Ted Brown and Fisher were scoreless. Dalhousie was whistled for 21 fouls and St. Mary’s 15. …………………………………………………… Saint Mary’s won the series with a 60-52 victory in the third and deciding contest after taking a 32-22 lead at the half. John Riley scored 13 before fouling out while Bill Mullane led the Huskies with 25. Jack Kelly added 11. Dalhousie was led by Nick Weatherston 17 and Bill White 11. The Tigers (coached by Merv Shaw) also included Ted Wickwire, Al Murray, Dave Woodworth, Bruce Stewart, Ted Brown, Warren Nickerson, Fisher, Simmons, Newman, Drysdale.

        In the Nova Scotia finals, St. FX defeated Saint Mary’s 61-50; 61-64; 54-42 (2g-1). …………………………………………………… The X-Men opened with a 61-50 victory as Bob Moran scored 20, including eight field goals, Ernie Foshay 13, Marty Walsh 13 and Paul Davenport 12. Saint Mary’s was led by John Riley’s 24, including 16 in the second half, Jack Kelley’s 8, Brian Ross’ 8. High scoring Bill Mullane was held to five. …………………………………………………… In game two, Saint Mary’s replied with a 64-62 victory in a thriller. With seven seconds to go, Bob Moran dunked to tie the score for St. FX. But John Riley dribbled up the court and fired the ball to Bill Mullane for an easy layup and the victory. St. FX had been ahead 38-34 at the half and Saint Mary’s rallied several times to tie the score. They took the lead for the first time at 62-60 on a Jack Kelly bucket. Jack Osborne promptly lost the ball twice but each time St. FX was unable to capitalize as Ernie Foshay missed easy layups. Bob Moran then stole the ball at midcourt and dunked for the tie before Saint Mary’s winning play. John Riley led Saint Mary’s with 27, Bill Mullane 18, Brian Ross 11, Jack Kelly 4, Bud Mason 2 and Leo Rancourt 2. St. FX was led by Paul Davenport 29, Jim Walsh 13, Bob Moran 12 and Ernie Foshay 6. …………………………………………………… In the deciding contest, St. FX easily handled Saint Mary’s 54-42 with free throw shooting the difference. St. FX shot 18-31 from the line, while Saint Mary’s was a dismal 8-26. St. FX took a 7-2 lead and was never headed. They were up 25-22 at the half and although Saint Mary’s closed to within 40-29 on a Rancourt field goal and within 43-41 with five minutes, St. FX took over the game in the final minutes, hitting nine free throws to Saint Mary’s one. Paul Davenport led all scorers with 25, while Marty Walsh added 11, Bob Moran 16 and Bob Monterio 2 for St. FX. Saint Mary’s was led by Bill Mullane 12, Bud Mason 10, John Riley 8, Brian Ross 6, Leo Rancourt 5 and Jack Kelly 1. The Huskies (coached by Frank Baldwin and managed by Johnson Mont) also included Cyril Burke, Fred Walker, John Osbourne, Bob Shea, John Kelly, Roy Cooper, Burke and Don Fisher.

        In the Maritime playoffs, St. FX defeated Mt. Allison 92-73; 79-66 (T:171-139).

        St. FX opened the two game total point series with a 92-73 pasting of Mount Allison. St. FX led 28-18, 46-39 and 66-50 at the quarters. The tough defence of Bob Moran and Paul Davenport allowed St. FX to control the contest and the boards. Davenport scored 35, Bob Moran 31, Ernie Foshay 6, Joe Sanborn 6, Bob Monterio 3 and Jim Walsh 11. Mount Allison was led by Herb Mays 33, Harvey Penner 14, Wayne McKay 10, Richard Hayden 7, Hoisak 7, White 1 and Cuthbertson 1.

In the second game, St. FX easily handled Mount Allison 79-66 to take the series by a 171-139 count. Mount Allison had been ahead 14-12 at the quarter, but St. FX pulled away to a 37-32 lead at the half. Although the game was tied briefly at 40, St. FX led 59-50 by the three-quarter mark. St. FX out-rebounded Mount Allison 60-40 and shot 14-30 from the line, while the Mounties were 12-18. St. FX was paced by Bob Moran 21, Paul Davenport 16, Ernie Foshay 13 and Jim Walsh 13. Mount Allison was led by Herb Mays 16, Hoisak 16, Richard Hayden 14 and Harvey Penner 11.
