The Nova Scotia league continued to be dominated by St. FX recruits from the United States. The X-men featured Frank Shea and Robert Connolly from Watertown, Massachusetts, Joe Sanborn, Packy McFarland, Martin Walsh, Daniel Nee, William Davis and Tom Conley from Portland, Maine, Cam MacDonald from North Arlington, New Jersey; Myles Pelletier from Madwaska, Maine, David Nicholson from Gardner, Massachusetts. Only Holmden Keenan from St. John, John MacKillop from Sydney and William Thompson from Dalhousie were Canadians.
Among the regular season highlights was Acadia handing St. FX its first home loss in 10 years by defeating the X-Men 58-54 as Varse McLaughlin scored 25 and Jack Garrett 21. Frank Shea led the X-men with 14, Packy MacFarlane added 13.
King’s did not participate in league.

In the Nova Scotia semis, Acadia, which played its home games in a tiny gym featuring what foes called a “floorette,” defeated Saint Mary’s 41-33; 64-48 (Total: 105-81). …………………………………… In game one, Acadia defeated Saint Mary’s 41-33 after taking the lead late in the first half and hanging on for the win. Jack Garnet led Acadia with 12. Varse McLaughlin added 9, including seven from the line. Don Clarke led Saint Mary’s with 11. Brian Ross added 10. …………………………………………………… In game two, Acadia defeated Saint Mary’s 64-58 as Claude ‘Varse’ MacLachlan scored 23, Jack Garnett 13, Webb 11 and Douglas 7. Brian Ross led Saint Mary’s with 21. The teams were tied at 28 at the half. Saint Mary’s pulled ahead 39-32 but Jack Garnett and Mac Skinner keyed a 7-0 run to tie it. Brian Ross and Don Clarke responded with a 6-0 run for Saint Mary’s. Acadia tied it at 48 before Skinner put the Axemen ahead 50-48 with a 15-foot jumper. Three lead changes later, Webb’s layup and Garnett’s breakaway pass from Bobby Douglas secured the game. Acadia froze the ball the rest of the way. The Huskies (coached by Frank Baldwin and managed by Tom Sherry) also included Terry Burns, Harold Pheeney, George Leach, Gerald Sheppard, Basil Carew, Jack Lawrence, Gerry Conrad, Robin Falconer, Don Clarke and Ken Dunsworth.
In the Nova Scotia finals, St. FX defeated Acadia 41-25; 53-40 (Total: 94-65). …………………………………………………… In game one, St. FX defeated Acadia 41-35. The X-Men were ahead 20-15 at the half but Acadia rallied to a 33-32 lead. The game was so noisy the timer’s whistle couldn’t be heard and a gun was brought into play to signal the end of the game. Football star Frank Shea hit two free throws and Joe Sanborn added another to enable St. FX to build a lead. Sanborn led St. FX with 13 points. Packy McFarland added 10. St. FX shot 7-11 from the line, while Acadia was 8-17. Jack Garnett led Acadia with 12. Varse McLaughlin also scored 12 and Don Church 4. …………………………………………………… In game two, St. FX defeated Acadia 53-40 in a game that was close until the end. St. FX was ahead 23-22 at the half. They took an early 7-4 lead and it was tied at 10 after a quarter. St. FX took an early 27-26 lead in the second ahead. Douglas put Acadia ahead with a bucket but then Cameron MacDonald hit two field goals in a row to put St. FX ahead for good. McFarland scored 12 for St. FX, who only played five players. MacDonald scored 12, Keenan 11, Shea 13 and Sanborn 5. Douglas led Acadia with 14. Varse McLaughlin added 13, Jack Garnett 5, Mac Skinner 4 and Church 4.

Shortly before the playoffs began, Varsity Reds coach Gerard ‘Moose’ Flemming, son of Premier Hugh John Flemming, left his duties to attend Detroit Tigers baseball training camp. He was replaced by Doug Rogers.
In the Maritime final, St. FX defeated New Brunswick 64-71; 59-50 (Total: 123-121).
In game one, New Brunswick prevailed 71-64 as Brannen scored 17, Milligan 13, Wightman 9, Forbes 5, Doiron 2 and Rheinlander 2, while Thorpe and Manzer were scoreless. Shea led the X-Men with 17. MacFarlane added 14, Sanborn 8, Keenan 8, Burns 6 and MacKillop 1, while Connolly, Walsh and Nee were scoreless.
In game two, St. FX won 59-50 in game two to eke out a series victory. St FX was head 24-21 in the first half and 32-24 at the break. UNB rallied to within four as Don Brannen, John Gorman and Johnny Forbes hit field goals. St. FX took a 44-38 lead at the three-quarter mark. Brannen hit 12, including 11 in the second half for the Varsity Reds. With six minutes to go, X-Men coach Alex MacAdam sent in Portland, Maine born Marty Walsh, who keyed a St. FX run and scored 8 points down the stretch. St. FX was ahead by one in the two-game point total with two minutes to go. Brannen hit a free throw to tie it but Joe Sanborn sunk a 20-foot jumper, giving St. FX a two-point lead and the title after freezing the ball for the last two minutes and 20 seconds. Joe Sanborn finished with 20. Frank Shea added 18, Packy McFarland 6, Cam Macdonald 6, Marty Walsh 8 and Tom Conley 1. Don Brannen led New Brunswick with 13. Jim Milligan had 12, Johnny Forbes 8, Wightman 4, John Gorman 8, Doiron 3 and Rheinlander 1.
