Winnipeg’s Sandra Carroll was the named the Nan Copp winner for the second consecutive campaign. Carroll averaged 27 ppg and was named GPAC athlete of the week on three occasions. She toiled for Canada at the FISU Games in Buffalo in 1993.
Winnipeg’s Top Kendall was named the Ennis recipient.
Dalhousie’s Carolyn Wares was named the Shields winner. The graduate of Calgary’s Western Canada High was elated. “I’m really happy and surprised,” Wares told the Calgary Herald. “It was an incredible honor just being part of the all-rookie team.” The 6-0 post led the AUS in both scoring, with a 22.2 ppg, and rebounding, with a 10.5 rpg.
Joining Carroll as 1st team All-Canadians were: Dianne Norman (Laurentian); Michele Vesprini (Western); Vicky Tessier (McGill); and Laura Swift (New Brunswick). …………………………………………………… Tessier suffered a knee injury with five games remaining in the season. The Martlets went 1-4 and were eliminated by Concordia in the Quebec conference final.
The 2nd-team All-Canadians were: Shari Jensen (Lethbridge); Anne Schimnowski (Manitoba); Vicky Wilson (Queen’s); Andrea Hutchens (Winnipeg); and Christina Van Aert (Victoria).
Joining Wares on the all-rookie unit were: Karen Jackson (York); Joy McNichol (Laurentian); Carla Vesprini (McMaster); Shawna Cook (Brandon); and Kim Grant (Saskatchewan).
