Manitoba’s Kim Bertholet was named recipient of the Nan Copp. The 21-year-old, a member of the national team, was named MVP at the 1988 nationals. She averaged 22 ppg to lead GPAC in scoring, while nabbing 7.0 rpg.
Calgary’s Donna Rudakas was named the Ennis winner. She steered the Dinosaurs to a 33-0 and the top seed in the nationals. “Personally, I’ve been coaching for 12 years and I’m honored that my peers respect me like this,” Rudakas, who was raised in Sudbury and toiled four years for Laurentian, told the Calgary Herald. “Being at home and all, how much more special can this be?”
Joining Bertholet as 1st team All-Canadians were: Mary Ann Kowal (Toronto); Kathy MacCormack (Dalhousie); Shawna Molcak (Lethbridge); and Debbie Patterson (Calgary). …………………………………………………… Patterson, named All-Canadian for the second time in three years, told the Calgary Herald that “being named to the first team is better this time because the rest of our team is here with me (at nationals).” Patterson averaged 16.9 ppg on the shooting, while shooting nearly .500 from the field. She was a first-team Canada West all-star. …………………………………………………… Molcak was Canada West player of the year. The Cardston native led the league in scoring by averaging 20 ppb. She hit .500 from the floor and .830 from the line. …………………………………………………… Kowal was selected a first-team All-Canadian for the third consecutive campaign.
The 2nd team All-Canadians were: Karen Degner (Calgary); Tina Fasone (McGill); Tanya MacKenzie (Winnipeg); Jackie Moore (Regina); and Gloria Tomasevic (McMaster). …………………………………………………… “I’m honored,” Degner told the Calgary Herald. “I’m sure I’ll look back on this later in life with a lot of price but, at the moment, the most important thing is to win this tournament.” Degner averaged 14.8 ppg and 7.0 rpg on the season, while shooting nearly .600 from the floor. She was a first-team Canada West all-star.
