-June 29/00: With the second pick of the entry draft, the Grizzlies select 6-9 power forward Stromile Swift of LSU. Averaged 16.2 ppg and 8.2 rpg in sophomore season and became known for his shotblocking skills.

-July 1/00: Antoine Carr and Milt Palacio become free agents.

-July 18/00: Sign Stromile Swift to a multi-year rookie contract.

-August 3/00: Sign Tony Massenburg to a multi-year contract. Massenburg had averaged 4.6 ppg for the Rockets in 2000-01 after playing in just 10 games because of groin injury. Drafted 43rd overall by San Antonio in 1990, Massenburg had played for 10 seasons.

-August 8/00: Sign journeyman Damon Jones to a multi-year contract.

-August 19/00: Sign Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, an eight-year NBA vet who sat out the 99-00 season, after retiring to play to Turkey, to a multi-year contract.

-January 30/01: Trade power forward Othella Harrington to the New York Knicks in exchange for Erick Strickland, a 2001 1st round draft pick and a 2001 2nd round draft pick. Strickland appeared in only 28 of 42 games during the season, averaging 4.3 points and 1.9 asissts per game. The Grizz get the Laker’s first round pick in 2001 and a second round pick.
