Transactions
-June 28/12: Drafted Terrence Ross with the 8th pick of the draft. Drafted Quincy Acy from the University of Washington with the 37th pick of the 2nd round of the draft. Drafted Tomislav Zubcic with the 56th pick of the draft. Ross, 6-foot-7, 197 pounds, was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection last season as a sophomore. He averaged 16.4 points and 6.4 rebounds, and ranked among Pac-12 leaders in eight categories including: points (4th), rebounds (6th), three-pointers per game (2.1, 8th) and blocks (0.9, 13th). Ross averaged 25.0 points in four games during Washington’s run to the NIT semifinals. He shot a perfect 15-of-15 from the free throw line and led UW shooters from three point range, making 15-of-37 attempts (.405). He posted a career-high 32 points with eight rebounds versus Northwestern in the NIT. As a freshman, Ross made his first career starts in the Pac-10 Tournament, averaging 15.3 points and 2.7 rebounds, and shooting 52.8 percent from the field to earn a spot on the five-man All-Pac-10 Tournament team. He tallied a team-high 19 points versus North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament. Acy, 6-8, 225 pounds, averaged 12.0 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 29.7 minutes in 38 starts last season at Baylor. He was named Big 12 All-Defensive team (unanimously) and All-Big 12 Second Team by the coaches. He is the second player in Bears history to finish his collegiate career ranked in the Top 10 in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage. As a senior, Acy had eight double-doubles, 10 double-digit rebounding games and 22 games with multiple blocks. He was Baylor’s lone NCAA South Regional All-Tournament Team selection. He recorded 22 points and eight rebounds in his final game at Baylor, an Elite Eight NCAA Tournament loss to eventual NCAA Champion Kentucky. Zubcic, 6-11, 230 pounds averaged 7.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 17.0 minutes in 22 outings with Cibona Zagreb in the Adriatic League.
-June 29/12: Extend qualifying offers to restricted free agents guard Jerryd Bayless and guard-forward Sonny Weems. Bayless averaged career highs of 11.4 points, 3.8 assists and 22.7 minutes in 31 games. Weems spent the 2011-12 season with Zalgiris in the Lithuanian league. He averaged 10.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 16 VTB League outings and 15.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in five Euroleague contests. Weems averaged career highs in points (9.2) and minutes (23.9) in 59 games with the Raptors in 2010-11. In a career-best 28 starts, he posted averages of 10.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 29.8 minutes. -July 11/12: Traded Gary Forbes and a 2013 1st round draft pick to the Houston Rockets for Kyle Lowry. The 26-year-old Lowry averaged career bests of 14.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals during the 2011-12 season. He also contributed team highs of 6.6 assists and 32.1 minutes in 47 games (38 starts). As a starter, he upped his averages to 15.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 35.5 minutes. Lowry, 6-foot, 205 pounds, was a first-round draft choice (24th overall) by Memphis in 2006. He was dealt by the Grizzlies to the Rockets on February 19, 2009. A native of Philadelphia, Lowry played two collegiate seasons at Philadelphia’s Villanova University before declaring for the NBA Draft. The six-year NBA veteran owns career averages of 10.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.14 steals and 26.9 minutes in 359 games. -July 14/12: Sign guard-forward Landry Fields after the New York Knicks chose to not match Toronto’s offer sheet for the restricted free agent. Fields, 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, has averaged 9.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 30 minutes in 148 games. He has appeared in every contest the past two seasons, making 143 starts. Fields was a 2010-11 T-Mobile All-Rookie First Team selection and twice named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month (November and December 2010). He paced the Knicks in rebounding 22 times, and set a franchise rookie-record making 86 three-pointers. A native of Southern California, Fields was an All-Pac-10 First Team selection as a senior at Stanford in 2009-10, with averages of 22.0 points, 8.8 rebounds and 36.3 minutes in 32 games.

-July 18/12: Sign centre Jonas Valanciunas to his rookie scale contract. He is under contract through the 2013-14 season, with two team option years to follow. The Raptors selected the Lithuanian with the fifth overall pick of the 2011 draft. “We are very pleased to welcome Jonas to the organization,” said Raptors President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo. “We are certain that Raptors fans will soon realize that the year-long process was worth the wait.” Valanciunas, seven-foot, 250 pounds, averaged 14.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 23.5 minutes in 23 Lithuanian league contests this past season with Lietuvos Rytas. Valanciunas was named 2011 FIBA Europe Young Men’s Player of the Year, earned the Eurocup Rising Star Trophy given to the most outstanding player under 22 and was presented the Lithuanian League All-Star Game Most Entertaining Player award. Valanciunas appeared in 84 games in the Lithuanian League in his three professional seasons, averaging 11.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. He competed for his country in the 2011 U-19 World Championships, leading Lithuania to the gold medal. He averaged 23.0 points, 13.9 rebounds and 3.2 blocks en route to the Most Valuable Player award. He totaled 36 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in the championship game victory over Serbia. Sign Landry Fields to a multi-year contract.
-July 27/12: Sign free-agent point guard John Lucas III, who averaged career bests of 7.5 points, 2.2 assists, 1.6 rebounds and 14.8 minutes in a career-high 49 games with Chicago in 2011-12. He shot .393 from three-point range (27th in the NBA) and .875 at the charity stripe. Lucas, 5-foot-11, 165 pounds, played overseas from 2007-10. He appeared in 40 games with the Shanghai Dongfang Sharks in the 2009-10 season where he contributed 27.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 42.3 minutes in 40 games. In 2008-09, Lucas split his time between Colorado in the NBA D-League and Spain’s Tau Ceramica. In the 2007-08 campaign, Lucas played for Benetton Treviso in Italy. Lucas began his NBA career with the Houston Rockets (2005-07). He played in 47 contests in the 2006-07 season and 13 games in 2005-06. Lucas finished his collegiate career at Oklahoma State after two seasons at Baylor. He was an All-Big 12 First Team selection as a junior and senior. He averaged 16.3 points and 4.3 assists in 68 games at Oklahoma State. Lucas is the son of John Lucas, Jr., former first overall pick of the Rockets in 1976.
-July 27/12: Re-signed centre Aaron Gray, who averaged 3.9 points, with career bests of 5.7 rebounds (third on team) and 16.6 minutes in 49 games with the Raptors last season. Re-sign free-agent forward Alan Anderson, who was signed to a 10-day contract by the Raptors on March 26 and then for the remainder of the season April 16.
-September 10/12: Sign forward Dominic McGuire. McGuire, 6-foot-9, 235 pounds, spent the 2011-12 season with Golden State, appearing in 64 games (six starts), averaging 3.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 17.6 minutes. He achieved career highs in 2008-09 averaging 4.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 26.2 minutes in 79 games (57 starts) with Washington. McGuire was selected 47th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Wizards and has also appeared in games for Sacramento (2009-10) and Charlotte (2010-11). He has posted career averages of 2.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 316 career games (74 starts).After two seasons at the University of California, McGuire played one season at Fresno State where he averaged 12.5 points and 9.8 rebounds. He ranked fifth in the nation with 3.6 blocks during the 2006-07 season with the Bulldogs.
-September 14/12: Sign Chris Wright to a contract. Wright, 6-foot-9, 230 pounds, participated with the 2011 Raptors’ NBA Summer League entry. He started in all four of his appearances averaging 9.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals. Wright split last season between Golden State and the NBA D-League. He was signed by the Warriors as a free agent December 10. He appeared in 24 games with Golden State where he averaged 2.9 points and 1.9 rebounds. Wright also appeared in 13 NBA D-League games with Maine and Dakota where he averaged 17.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.38 blocks. Wright averaged 13.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 123 career outings at Dayton. He earned third-team All-Atlantic 10 honours as a senior, first-team as a junior and second-team as a sophomore.
-September 18/12: Re-sign veteran centre Jamaal Magloire. Magloire averaged 1.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 11.0 minutes in 34 appearances with the Raptors in 2011-12.
-September 19/12: Sign Jerel McNeal, 6-foot-3, 205 pound guard. McNeal played last season in Italy with Fabi Shoes Montegranaro. He averaged 10.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals in 32 outings. McNeal signed a 10-day contract with New Orleans in March 2011 but did not see any game action. He appeared in 47 NBA D-League contests with Rio Grande Valley, averaging 19.4 points, 4.4 assists and 34.4 minutes. A 2009 product of Marquette University, McNeal finished his collegiate career as the school’s all-time leader in points (1,985), steals (287) and games played (130). He was named to the All-Big East First Team as a senior averaging 19.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.0 steals in 35 games.
-October 17/12: Exercise fourth year team option to extend rookie scale contract of forward Ed Davis. Davis is now guaranteed through the 2013-14 season.
-October 22/12: Waive Jerel McNeal and Chris Wright.
-October 27/12: Waive Jamaal Magloire. The 12-year NBA
veteran did not see any game action during the preseason. He appeared in 34
games with the Raptors last season, averaging 1.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 11.0
minutes. Magloire is the first Canadian-born player to play for the Raptors.
-October 31/12: Sign DeMar DeRozan to a multi-year rookie contract extension. “DeMar
has worked very hard and has been a significant part of the building process
here in Toronto,” said Raptors President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo.
“We view DeMar as a young, athletic and talented basketball player whose
character fits what we are putting together.” The 23-year-old DeRozan entered
the 2012-13 season having averaged 14.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 30.3 minutes
in 222 career games with the Raptors, with 210 of those being starting
assignments. He has shot .802 (743-927) from the charity stripe.
-November 30/12: Sign free-agent guard-forward Mickael Pietrus, 6-foot-6, 215 pounds, has shot .357 per cent (659-1846) from three-point range in his NBA career. He has connected at better than .350 per cent from beyond the arc in five of his past six seasons. A veteran of nine NBA campaigns, Pietrus has averaged 8.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 21.5 minutes in 538 career games. He has appeared in 69 postseason outings, averaging 7.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 21.8 minutes. His best statistical season came in 2006-07 when he averaged 11.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 72 games with Golden State. Pietrus was selected 11th overall by Golden State in the 2003 NBA Draft. He spent five seasons with the Warriors before splitting his last four years between Orlando, Phoenix and Boston. Pietrus began his professional career in his native France with Pau Orthez. He played four seasons with the club, averaging 9.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 94 games. To make room on the roster, the Raptors waive forward Dominic McGuire.

-January 30/13: As part of a three-team trade, the Raptors dispatch Jose Calderon, Ed Davis and a 2013 2nd round draft pick to the Memphis Grizzlies, (Calderon eventually surfacing in Detroit), while receiving Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddadi from the Grizzlies. “This is the type of deal we have been looking for to take our team another step forward,” said Raptors President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo. “Rudy Gay is a dynamic wing that elevates our talent level significantly. Gay, 6-foot-8, 230 pounds, has averaged 17.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 36.2 minutes in 479 career games (443 starts). The 26-year-old has played all seven of his NBA seasons in Memphis. He was selected with the eighth pick in the first round of the 2006 Draft by the Houston Rockets and his draft rights were traded to the Grizzlies. Haddadi 7-foot-2, 265, is the first Iranian-born player in the NBA. He has averaged 2.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 6.1 minutes in 134 career outings, all with Memphis.
-February 21/13: Acquire point guard Sebastian Telfair from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for centre Hamed Haddadi and a protected second-round draft pick in 2014. Telfair, 6-foot, 170 pounds, is in his ninth NBA season and owns career averages of 7.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 21.7 minutes in 535 games (192 starts). Telfair, 27, has played for Portland, Boston, Minnesota, Los Angeles (Clippers), Cleveland and Phoenix. He posted career-high averages in points (9.8), assists (5.9) and minutes (32.2) with Minnesota. He appeared in 106 games with Phoenix the past two seasons, averaging 6.1 points, 2.4 assists and 15.9 minutes. He shot .349 (76-218) from three-point range with the Suns. Telfair was one of the most celebrated high school players in New York City history, leading Brooklyn’s Abraham Lincoln High School to three New York PSAL titles and one state championship. He was selected out of high school by the Blazers (first round, 13th overall) in 2004.

Season wrap
The season starts with an unsuccessful bid to sign free agent and Canadian hoops legend Steve Nash. The Raptors finish 34-48, again missing the playoffs. Significant personnel moves include dispatching Jose Calderon to Detroit, obtaining Kyle Lowry from the Houston Rockets and obtaining narcissist Rudy Gay from the Memphis Grizzlies.
