At the start of the season, the Vancouver Eilers are invited to represent Canada at the Pan Am Games in mid-March. As a consequence, they are given a direct bye into the national finals, and the right to host the event, having only to win the BC playoffs. In Mexico City, the Eilers lose all eight of their games, claiming they had trouble adjusting to a smaller ball and the altitude.

The only two Eastern teams that were eligible for national play, Toronto Bridgeman’s and Hamilton Zions declined participation at the start of the national playoffs, saying that they would be unable to meet financial obligations to help the Western winner travel to the east. Interest in senior A ball continued to decline through the years as the East discovered it could not compete with Western squads and were repeatedly drubbed in national finals.
