The national title was awarded to the Hamilton Zion Lady Ramblers because the Vancouver Eilers, as hosts, were unable to generate the $1,400 guarantee associated with hosting the Ramblers at the national championship. The Eilers offered to pay for half of Hamilton’s expenses, calling it “the best offer ever submitted by a team for a championship series.” Hamilton insisted on coverage of full expenses ($2500) and were supported by CABA President Don Paul. CABA members Eddie Bowering (an ex-CABA president) and Harry Chapman of Vancouver called the demand “totally without precedent.”
