Bob Morris led the Cascades with 13. Wayne Thomas added 10, Welland 9, Elliott 8, Andrews 7, Amalung 6, Dan Quance 3, Jim Lathrop 3 and Ed Blott 2, while Newcombe was scoreless. Broncos coach Max Gordon told the Vancouver Sun that “we weren’t shooting or rebounding in that first half. We’ve never played a team as tall as this one.” Cascades coach Jim Christie said “we’re just not used to being outjumped. We’ve dominated most teams we’ve played … on the boards … We just couldn’t adapt to the style. In the national semis, the Surrey Broncos defeated the London Celtics 74-72 in the final seconds as Bob Barrazzoul tied the contest with a field goal with two minutes to go and then won it with two free throws. The Celtics had been ahead through the entire contest and even in the final minutes looked like they would win it as Barry Howson hit two free throws to give the Celtics the lead. The Broncos were led by Bob Phillips’ 20 and Brent Watson’s 20. The Celtics were paced by Al Brown 20 and Terry MacKay 14. The Celtics last shot to tie the game bounced off the rim.

        In the other semi, the Halifax Wandlyns pasted the Winnipeg St. Andrews Super Saints 97-80 on the strength of Steve Pound’s 47-point effort. John Cassidy added 21 and Brian Peters 14. Halifax led 47-41 at the half. The Super Saints were led by Bob Town’s 18 points. Jim Ruppel added 16.

        In the bronze medal match, the Winnipeg St. Andrews Super Saints nipped the London Celtics 87-81 after leading 44-43 at the half. Angus Burr led Super Saint scoring with 35, Bob Town 18 and Ross Wedlake 15. Tourney favorite London was paced by Larry Archibald 20, 6-8 Terry MacKay 20 and Al Brown 18.

        The Halifax Wandlyn Motor Inns gave the Maritimes its first national title by thrashing the Surrey Broncos 93-78. Millinocket, Maine-born and former Acadia star Steve Pound scored 49 for the Wandlyns, hitting 20-32 from the floor and 9-11 from the line. Brian Peters added 13, John Cassidy 10. The Wandlyns were ahead 50-40 at the half. The Broncos were led by Brent Watson 15, Ken Zokol 14, Bob Barrazzoul 12. After shooting .660 in the first half, the Broncos were a mere .350 in the second.
