In a cautiously played national semi, Simon Fraser defeated the Winnipeg St. Andrews Dunlops 74-59. The Clansmen led 34-30 at the half. The biggest lead was 14. The Clansmen prevailed with outside shooting. Guard Eilan Sloustcher scored 19, guard Bill Robinson 17, Wayne Morgan 13, Brian MacKenzie 10, Larry Clark 5, Glen Mackenzie 4, Alex Devlin 2, Don Higham 2 and Mike Charles 2. The Dunlops were paced by Dave Mills with 17, including 12 in the first half. Grant Alfonso added 10, Glen Torgerson 10. The Clansmen won the battle of the boards. Winnipeg centre Bill Henderson fouled out with 10 minutes to go. Dave Mills paced the Dunlops with 17. Grant Alfonso and Glen Torgerson each added 10, Bill Henderson 5, Ray McKall 5, Frank Clarke 4, Bob Hazell 3, Jim Bannon 2, Terry Little 2 and Bill Wedlake 1.

        In the other semi, the Sarnia Drawbridge Knights defeated the Lethbridge Dougs 91-81. Sarnia rallied from an 11-point deficit in the first half to take a 51-43 lead at the break. Peter Misikowetz led the Knights with 24. Barry Howson added 22, Ron Vernoche 21, Norm Cuttiford 13, Grant Gordon 7 and Doug Shaver 4. The Dougs were led by Robin Fry with 21. Orville Fischer added 19, Gordon Balog 11, Ken Myhre 10, Don McClain 7, Ed Blott 5, Jim Gladstone 4, Don Andrews 2 and Ev Nowlin 2.

        The battle for the bronze saw the Lethbridge Dougs nip the Winnipeg St. Andrews Dunlops 69-68 as Orville Fischer scored 21, Jim Gladstone 12, Ed Blott 10, Gordon Balog 9, Robin Fry 6, Don McClain 5, Don Andrews 4 and Lyndon Hutchinson 2, while Ken Myhre and Ev Nowlin were scoreless. Dave Mills scored 24 to pace the Dunlops. Bill Henderson added 10, Frank Clarke 8, Glen Torgerson 7, Bob Hazell 6, Grant Alfonso 6, Bill Wedlake 5, Jim Bannon 2, while Ray McKall and Terry Little were scoreless. The Dunlops (coached by Jimmy Bulloch, managed by George Fontaine) also included Fred Ingaldson and Dave Godfread.

        In the final, the Simon Fraser Clansmen defeated the Sarnia Drawbridge Knights 80-76. The Clansmen led 40-36 at the half and methodically kept control of the ball and game, easily breaking the Sarnia press and stretching out their lead. Wayne Morgan, playing with a dislocated finger, paced SFU with 20. Bill Robinson added 16, Brian McKenzie 12, Mike Charles 9, Eilan Sloustcher 7, Don Higham 6, Larry Clarke 6 and Glen Mackenzie 4, while Alex Devlin and Rudy Wiebe were scoreless. Sarnia was led by Peter Misikowetz with 20. Ron Vernoche added 15, Doug Shaver 14, Barry Howson 12, Norm Cuttiford 9 and Grant Gordon 4, while Len Denomme, John Zdrahal, John Brikmanis and Bruce Patterson were scoreless. Too much speed, too much height and younger legs proved the difference. The game was tied several times in second half but eventually SFU pulled clear.
