In game one, Ole Bakken scored 24 as the Meralomas whipped Assumption 76-49. Vancouver led 14-11; 33-24 and 54-34 at the quarters. Jack Pomfret added 20, Bob Burtwell 14, Ivor Wynne 12, Jim Bardsley 3 and Ralph Henderson 3. Freddy Thomas led Windsor with 9 before fouling out in the final quarter. Ado Rorai and Hank Lally each added 8, Bill Coulthard 7, Tom O’Hara 5, Joe Horocky 5, Bill Kohlman 5 and Woodrow Campbell 2. Playing coach Ralph ‘Hunk’ Henderson was beset by player woes as star guards Sandy Robertson and Ron Weber missed the opening contest. Robertson, a professional baseball player, was pitching his first win of the season for the Vancouver Capilanos of the Western International League, while Weber was writing exams.

The title was the first for the Meralomas since returning to the senior ranks after a 15-year layoff. It was the 8th Dominion title for a Vancouver squad and the 15th for a B.C. team in 25 years. A group of Vancouver and U.B.C. players had approached the Meraloma Club and asked them for sponsorship. Meralomas took up offer but only sponsored the team for one year, during which the won the national title.
