But strong defence by Nova Scotia held BC Red to only two points in the first five minutes of the second quarter and the eastern province posted a 30-21 lead at the half. Nova Scotia went on a 15-3 run in the latter stages of the third quarter to increase their lead to 45-29 after three quarters. BC Red had a late run in the fourth to keep things interesting, but Nova Scotia iced it at the line. Selected players of the game were Nova Scotia’s Zana Cassidy and BC-Red’s Michelle Spacek. In the bronze medal match, Alberta clocked Manitoba 66-52. Forward Selali Acolatse said the entire squad contributed to the victory. “I definitely think it was a full team [effort], we won it together.” Alberta built a 16-15 lead after one quarter and expanded it to 32-27 at the half. Alberta guard Emily Adamic took command in the third quarter as Alberta built a 51-34 lead after three quarters and romped. In the final, Ontario defeated British Columbia-Blue 43-36. Forward Emma Wolfram got things started with BC-Blue’s first three points and a huge block but Ontario responded with an 11-1 run as they built a 13-8 lead after one quarter and a 24-14 margin at the half. BC-Blue’s defensive pressure yielded several turnovers as they trimmed the margin to four before Ontario rebuilt a 32-26 after three quarters. BC-Blue, though, knotted the score at 32 before Ontario took command down the stretch. “I felt that we played a great game,” said Ontario guard Dakota Whyte.
