In the bronze medal match, Nova Scotia defeated Alberta 66-54 as Kathleen McIver, Justine Colley and Rachelle Coward each scored 10. MacIver was chosen player of the game for Nova Scotia while Sondra Medley grabbed 10 boards. Stephanie Vermunt was chosen player of the game for Alberta, while Ashley Ashman and Tania Meunier each scored 10 and each nabbed 7 boards. Nova Scotia led 32-17 at the half but Alberta won the second half 37-34. “We made a decision as a team to come out and go as hard as possible,” said Cassie Carle. “if we didn’t win, it would be because we weren’t trying.” Alberta coach Laurel Closkey said “the girls played 20 minutes of basketball. The kids are young, there’s only one returning player (Ashman). It took them a whole half to realize that if they play their hearts out, they can be successful. But they played to the buzzer and as a coach, that’s all you can ask for.” Nova Scotia coach Curtis Coward noted that ‘we had our hearts set on gold but we’re still happy and proud to come home with a medal.” Alberta (coached Laurel Closkey, assisted by Pat Chizek) also included Caleigh Monck
